This school's rating (only 1) speaks for itself. Their primary focus seems to be ESL learning, which leaves my (English speaking) children needs ignored. With music, PE, TAG programs all being cut I am currently looking into any option available for my children in order get them out of Alder Elementary.
This school's administration is reactive (vs. proactive). Issues will slide unless you stay on top and bug them about the issue in question. We also had a problem with a teacher and our student, the adminstration wanted to do nothing (seemingly not to blame the teacher) to correct the situation, we had to push to get our student out of the poisonous environment. Once our student was out, the recovery was almost complete. We say almost, because the time lost in the other class has stunted the learning, that has been painly recovered (almost). Reccomendation to other parents: question everything then push hard when you find a problem. Otherwise you will have status quo and no solution.
Organization is not their specialty. I also have the same concern with my kids not having homework. I started to feel like I wasn't really involved but I found myself digging for something interesting in their backpacks and there's really nothing sent. I appreciate all the nice help they provide to needy families but it almost feel like that's about it.
There is a serious lack of organization among staff at school events. My 2nd grade child never once had homework all year and claims to be bored at school. Normally a well behaved child I fear that this boredom will lead to misbehavior if he is not more challenged. I don't know how that will happen at Alder Elementary, I am currently looking into other options, and this website has been extremely helpful,
