My son attends cassell elementary and I love it! He's autistic and he is learning so much. His teacher is great!

Unfortunately, ever since the school became an AMP school and and started focusing more and more on fine arts, those students that are not interested in those subjects have been pushed off to the side. This school needs to be put back under the CPS umbrella and they need to drop the fine arts curriculum, or at least offer an alternative. This is an elementary shcool, not HS, or college. I have one student that loves it, and one that hates it. And, guess what? The one that hates it is unengaged and constantly being singled out. It gets a little annoying after a while. Discipline here is very disproportionate, especially if the student is male, or if the student is uninterested in the arts. I am actually pulling my children and sending them to the catholic school next year.

I think that cassell gives an amazing education compared to some other schools in the surrounding area. there is a great environment, the teachers are caring and supportive and the parents are always involved with school functions. there obviously are always things to criticize, but nothing over the top or anything that can't be immediately handled.

I believe children need balance and need to be critical thinkers, creative and computer savvy. Being computer literate is no longer a thing of the past or optional. This should not fall back on the classroom teacher they have more than enough to contend with. My children were learning so much in that class. With that said, I can also say that my daughters loves dance and music and both learn quite a bit from those teaches too. My review is not ment to take anything away from those teachers. Children need to be able to do things the old way and the new. I'm not saying give them calculators for tests, I'm saying teach them to how to use them.
