Coosa Elementary School

Extremely happy with this school. This is the best elementary school in Beaufort County hands down. My son is in 1st grade and doing extremely well, but he also has a wonderful teacher, Mrs. Evans. The only criticism I would have for the school and the district as a whole is the lack of a good, well-enforced, 'No Bullying' Policy. This is one area they need to greatly improve on.

I'm very happy with this school, the teachers, and the administration. They are very responsive to the needs of the kids and the parents. The curriculum is well rounded. We have come from DoDD's schools, and my child transitioned to Coosa at the same levels, no problem. We have been very happy with the education here.

Very sad to leave Coosa El. My 3 children attended Coosa for 4 years. It is a fantastic school with excellent teachers and a welcoming enviornment for students and parents.

My children have attended Coosa for the last six years. I have been very pleased by the quality education they have receieved. Unfortunately, the school is getting very large now, and overcrowding is definitely going to become a real issue very soon. I agree that the after school pick up can be a little crazy, but the system works when parents follow the rules. If you are moving to Beaufort, I would recommend this school, as well as Mossy Oaks Elementary and Lady's Island Elementary (which are both smaller and less crowded). The principal at Coosa is often difficult to reach and seemingly uninvolved with the students.

My son has attended Coosa for the last 4 yrs, (K-4) and we have loved it. The teachers are great and they truely care about the children and their education. The school is clean and well kept and has an enormous amount of parent involvement which is encouraged by the administration. The majority of the children who attend Coosa are well mannered and come from good families.My entire family has made lasting friendships through this school simply b/c we were involved, something that will not happen at the private schools near by. Unfortunately we are moving out of state and we can only hope that our next school is half as good as Coosa.

Coosa Elementary is a fine school. The teachers my child had were caring teachers but I had concerns with both regarding how they kept discipline in their classes. You really need to know which teachers to ask for. The classrooms looked unorganized and cluttered. However, I know that my child enjoyed all of the learning centers available. The school is clean and welcoming. Picking your child up after school is not so safe due to parents who won't follow rules. I have seen many parents drive down the wrong side of the road on school property to avoid waiting in line. I have seen near collisions and children come close to being hit by cars because of it. I felt the office staff was generally helpful and friendly, especially the principal.

People told me you can't send you children to public schools in Beaufort, South Carolina. Obviously they've never been to Coosa Elementary School. Both of my children have been very successful there and have excellent teachers. They have made many friends with children from very nice families. The school is big and you need to be involved to make sure your children get the very best teachers. I'd put the ones my children have had up against any teachers from any school anywhere. I think they've been that good. You wouldn't believe all the parent volunteers at Coosa. I don't think I have been there in last three years and not seen some a parent volunteering. The only downside would be that there really aren't many clubs or extra curricular activities, but my children have never cared, because they are bust with other things. They both love school.

Wonderful school! People told us we couldn't do public school in South Carolina. Boy, were they wrong. This school is big, but it feels small. The caliber of teaching is incredible and the resources and facilities are so nice. I feel so lucky to have all my kids here. I don't understand why everyone doesn't live in the area, so they can send their kids to Coosa. I visited some other schools and some were O.K. but Coosa feels like what a good school should be.

The office staff is cordial on good days, rude on most days. The teachers seem to yell alot and are not very welcoming. We are having trouble 'fitting' in, hope things change soon. The kids all seem to be undisciplined and spoiled. They call each other names and I have heard them swearing in the hallway. Not too sure if we will stay at this particular school another year.

I would recommend Coosa Elementary for children in Beaufort because it is a good school. However, I found that since moving, my children are a little behind. It is also difficult to keep the lines of communication open between the parent and the teacher. I think the PTO needs to do more things with and for the children and parents to keep them motivated throughout the school year. There are not many ways to meet new people and make friends. The office could also use a lesson in common courtesy.
