I have surely thrived and felt more loved and given more opportunity at this school than ever. The teachers care about the student and the subject. It's one big happy family. They will do whatever you need to help you succeed. There's also a wide range of classes to best suit your interests and so many fun ways to get involved. My heart is always in Blythewood.
DO NOT listen to the parent below... please be cognizant that some people think their child is more deserving than yours.
I love Blythewood High School! My child has greatly benefited from the rigorous academic program and the outstanding co-curricular opportunities allotted. DO NOT listen to the parent below... please be cognizant of which schools you are zoned for when relocating.
Blythewood High School is one of more affluent and less diverse of the five high schools in Richland Two. The teachers are excellent and most have advanced training such as National Boards, AP, and G/T. I am currently in my sophomore year at BHS and I love it! I am so blessed to be at a school with such a warm and inviting environment, beneficial for all children to flourish. My only problem with the school is communication, we aren't aware of most things that are happening at school, so hardly anyone shows up to events, except for Basketball and Football, of course. To anyone relocating to the Midlands, I believe the Blythewood High School Feeder is the best in Richland Two. I have had the great and unique privilege of attending a true "Palmetto's Finest" High School. #GoBengals!
I really like this school and I think it is a great place to be. I am very glad I made the decision to go to this school. There are a few things in the rules that i would like to change for example some dress code rule, Disciplinary actions, and our lunch time. Other than that i really like this school
In all of the four years i have attended, they never seemed to get any students to try for student council except the students that were already there and the students had nothing to do with choosing the the class president or any thing else. I am dissapointed. I expexted to be blown away when I chose this school but it was just like every other school I've been to, not very exciting and uninvolving
I can't say enough about how the band program at BHS has helped our child transition to high school. The research says that if kids find a positive group to identify with as ninth graders, they increase their chances of sucess and graduation tremendously. The band has been our child's positive group. Because of his experience as a member of the high school marching band as an eighth grader, his transition to high school has been amazingly smooth. The support that the administration at BHS gives to the band program speaks to how strong the program has become in just 4 years. The administrative support has allowed the band program to expand beyond the typical concert, jazz, and marching areas to include world music, particularly percussion. Great administrators, great faculty, great opportunities!
Blythewood HS offers a full compliment of academic opportunites - AP, Honors, CP and regular classes, as well as outstanding fine arts programs. Blythewood's award-winning Band Program is advanced and offers first-class instruction and curriculum. We are well-satisfied with the quality and variety of the programs offered.
This is one of the newest schools in the state. With state of the art facilities. If sports are your desire I have nothing but good reviews for all sports except baseball. This has to be the most political driven program for sports I have ever been around. I have watched talented kids leave the program disgruntled. So if your son aspires to play this sport look elsewhere !!
This is one of the best schools with the widest variety of extracurricular activities available for the students. The parents are as involved as they want to be and encourgaged to drop in whenever. The teachers are the best in the state and nation. I have two children attending Blythewood High as well as a niece and nephew. They are all excelling and participating in various activities and sports. They are all honor students with colleges offering them scholarship. I couldn't ask for more!
I have one child currently attending Blythewood High. She in all CP classes and on the JV cheerleader squad. The teachers seem to care for the studend progress as much as I do.
I have two children currently attending Blythewood High. One is in CP classes and the other in special ed. The quality of the staff is outstanding. The teachers seem to actually care about my children's progress. They will even call me when they have a concern. The level of parental involvement is quite good. I am involved with the marching band and have never worked with a more dedicated group of parents. We are very blessed to have a school of this caliber in our district. I have also noticed excellent racial relations at this school and within the Blythewood Community in general.
Absolutely a top of the line school. My daughters are thrilled to be in this new school. We attended the open house and were very pleased with the reaction/interaction of the teachers.
We moved here from Cal. and my niece attends Blythewood. We actually bought our home based on her attending this school. It is a wonderful school and she enjoys it very much.
I must also wholeheartedly disagree with the November 2005 assessment. We moved here from Arizona in Dec 05 and you have no idea how good of a school this is. My son has not talked about a single fight, he enjoys school much more so than he did in Tucson. I've been there several times and am amazed at how respectful and resourceful the students are here, all things considered. The teachers and the administration have been very involved with his scholastics as I am very involved. And opportunities here far exceed anything we saw back in Arizona. Extracurricular activities abound and my son is very involved - in athletics as well. Even as a freshman. As with all places, there are areas for improvement - overcrowding for one. But coming from a school of 2500 in about the same amount of space, this is wonderful. We love it here!
Because Blythewood High is a new school (2005-2006 first graduating class) there have been some adjustments for students as well as teachers. However, that should be expected. This campus is beautiful. It has actually been compared to some small college campuses. They have an awesome academic program to include opportunities for junior and senior students that other high schools in the district do not offer, i.e., culinary study, engineering program, etc. The community is so proud to have this new high school and the parent participation is great. I have not heard of any issues with fighting or out of hand misconduct. The leadership at this school is exemplary. My son is actually enjoying this school year. I would highly recommend that anyone considering this school come and look around meet the office staff as well as some of the teachers. I am sure most folks would be very impressed.
The comments of the parent from Nov. 2005 are grossly incorrect. I personally am not involved in activities, but many parents are and I do communicate with teachers. Apparently this person has had their feelings hurt by someone and is taking their anger out in the wrong manner. My son attends Blythewood High and none of what was mentioned has ever been brought to my attention by my son. He is enjoying his Senior year and is proud to be a part of the first graduating class from the new Blythewood High. He is looking forward to attending a culinary arts school due to his exposure to the program at school. Additionally, community leaders and business professionals have stated their confidence in the school's educational abilities. Please bring your student to Blythewood with the full assurance that he or she will receive an excellent education.
This school is one of the worst schools around. The overcrowding is awful. There are fights almost everyday. The academic programs here are behind those of other states and there are hardly any extracurricular activities for my son to join. The level of parent involvement is poor as well. I involved myself in as many activities as I could, but it seemed like I was the only one. This school lacks dicipline too. The students are rowdy and misbehaved. There is also racism in the school. I would hardly recommend anyone attending this school.
