Langston Charter Middle School

This middle school is the best of both worlds. It feels like a high-end private school, yet it is a public Charter school. The teachers know all the students and truly care about them. We love the single gender classes.

As a former student who attended all three years, I really enjoyed Langston. The teachers really care about their students. Although some baby the students and dont give the 8th graders the chance to use the responsibilty they need to learn to succeed in high school. Overall the school is great.

I have two students at Langston. I have been impressed with the teachers. I think the principal is great. The school secretary is excellent. The thing that is most impressive though is how they all work together. I also have appreciated how my children are allowed outside during the day. Short breaks for sun and movement are part of the every day experience. This school encourages parents in every way. They truly want each student to succeed. I am thankful to be a part of the Langston family!

Langston Charter Middle has given my son and our family the gift of an education with qualified and caring teachers. I work in the public school system, and while there are good teachers every where, there is great leadership all the way to the Board. Langston's mindful planning and it's success has surpassed all expectations. I feel the people of Greenville County are making a statement to the School System that we do want a better choice for our children. They deserve it. I have taught at this school since the beginning. This school only becomes better with age and experience. I've taught for over 15 years and can honestly say this school is fantastic! I have never been under a better administration and the community here is like family. Academics are high and red tape is low. I can actually teach!

Thanks to my incredible experience at Langston, I don't think I could ever teach anywhere else! From the top down, I am fully supported and encouraged, and I am able to actually teach without extra, unnecessary burdens being placed on me. Professional development focuses on single gender initiatives/quality learning and has been extremely helpful and worthwhile. I can honestly say I absolutely love coming to work every day - a rare experience in teaching. Teaching single gender classes allows me to meet the separate needs and interests of boys and girls and gives me greater flexibility to explore innovative methods as I meet these varying learning styles. The teacher-administrator, teacher-teacher, teacher-student, and teacher-parent relationships are excellent. We all feel as though we are part of a unique community, and we treat each other like family. Teaching at Langston makes me want to do my very best every day!

Both of my children have attended LCMS, a girl and a boy. Single gender classes with teachers trained on how to reach their audience has been key in helping my children do well in middle school. I appreciate the emphasis on community service and the fact it is required. Its a good mix of students from various family backgrounds but what binds it all together is the fact all the families (or the vast majority) are united in wanting a well rounded education for their child. The uniform is a real bonus! Before each student is enrolled the philosophy and expectations of the school are explained in a personal interview. When we enrolled our children we had a very realistic picture of what to expect and we are glad we had the opportunity to send our children to a charter school.

LCMS is the best middle school in the country! This school has it all - incredibel academics, small classrooms, uniforms, leadership training and required community service. A keystone of the school is parental involvement - no doubt a key componet in its terrific success. All years of its existence it has achieved Yearly annual progress under the federal no child left behind mandates - a feat no other Greenville Co Middle achieved.

I am a former student Langston--I attended my 7th and 8th grade years--and I absolutely loved it. Students can truly connect with their teachers and being with the same girls for two years helped us form great friendships. Thanks to Langston, I entered high school with 4 credits: 2 in math, 1 in Spanish, and 1 in English. Also, the opportunity to participate in YIG was amazing; most public schools in the area did not let their students go. Although a lot is asked of parents at the school, my family and I believe the experience was worth it.

Disappointing. Extra curricular activities only parent-led...if youre a stay at home mom and want to hang out at school - good. Otherwise, too high expectation on parents' time and money. Working parents - not the school for you unless you like to be hounded and shunned if you don't give $$

My daughter is just midway through her 2nd year at Langston. We couldn't be more pleased with this school. Classes are separated by gender and the teachers are trained to teach boys in ways appropriate for the male brain, and girls in ways appropriate for the female brain. Classes are advanced and a lot is expected of the students. Class size is small (20) which enables the teachers to spend 1:1 time with the kids as needed. Students leave Langston having had the opportunity to earn High School credit for Spanish, English Honors, Algebra, & Geometry. The students are trained in Leadership and have the opportunity to apply their learnings through required community service projects. Active parental involvement is expected and delivered by the outstanding majority of parents. I can't say enough good things about this middle school!
