I graduated from this school and when I attended, it was pretty good in academics and so so in athletics. Now, all I hear is negativity from parents and students. I am friends with a few of the teenagers that attend and most of them are updating their facebook pages from class. How much learning are they actually doing if they allow students to text and update social network pages from their CELLPHONES in class? Not much.....
JHS overall is a good school; however, academic standards have declined in the 10 or so years since the current principal came in late 90s. Undoubtedly, JHS used to be the best school in the PEE DEE, and one of the best in the state. Now, it's just mediocre. The athletic and arts programs were top notch, but now they too have worsened. Moreover, the school has some serious unaddressed racial issues (from the top on down) both explicit and implicit. JHS still has some amazing teachers left; your kid(s) probably will get a good education there, but he/she or they will have to want it!
