I have a son that attends this school and for the most part he really dislikes it. I've seen for myself that the teachers are more concerned that they stick w/syllabus for the year and not concerned if the student comprehends or not. When the child doesn't understand they threaten retention. What's really going on in the education system.

I would first like to say that the reputation is not what it always looks like from the outside. I have 3 children who have or are attending this school. I have had good experiences with the principal on hand as well as the assistant principals. I will say that I was glad of the change in this area a few years ago. The new staff is wonderful! The extracurricular activities available are worthwhile as well as age appropriate for this group of children. The activity that has most inspired my children has been the CCLC. The children love this program and look forward to that more so than any other activity at the school. The level of parent involovement is about the same that it is for most schools with this age of children. It could be better, but it's not all bad. It's a good school and we're happy.

MES's academic goal is set at state level guidelines but their staff in general only do the basic job of teaching. I have a ADHD child and only a small percintage of the teachers take this into consideration when asked for help keeping her on task. I visited the school weekly speaking to each of her teachers to find out how she was doing in their classes. The standard reply was, 'She has been well behaved and is turning in her homework.' She ended up with 2 F's and 3 D's. They don't make sure a child understands what they are covering, only that they stay on goal with what needs to be covered. Administrative staff make sure teachers stay on scheduel. The tutoring program in place does not improve student understanding. Teachers cover a syllabus but don't do one on one.
