Best school in Charleston...BY FAR!!!!! Great teachers, excellent principal and staff. Love the interaction with the kids and parents. Wouldn't send my child anywhere else.

Awesome facility, caring staff and wonderful place for kids to learn. Communication from teachers is quick and love having my 2 kids there. Would send them to Laurel Hill before paying crazy money for a private school. I moved them from private to LH and the quality is actually better.

I am not sure whether my child got bad teachers 2 years in the row or perhaps his school is not as good as I thought. The teaching methods are boring, no teacher-student interaction, lack of creativity, lack of discipline. I got to believe the school's reputation is good because of the children's academic performance, which from my experience is parents merit and not teachers'. This school allows buying presents/giftcards for the teacher which I believe is a form of bribing that ultimately promotes corruption.

Laurel Hill Primary has the finest teachers and the leadership that the principal puts forth is outstanding. I am a proud parent of Laurel Hill. I have a child in K5, 1st grade, and an older daughter that attended K through 3rd grade at Laurel Hill. All of my children were exicited each and every day to attend school and this is do to the strong staff and programs that this school provides.

This is great school. Facility, teachers and stuff are excellent. My daughter enjoyed her school so much she did not like weekends.

For a school with a large population, Laurel Hill does a fantastic job making it feel small. My son attended 3 years, and my daughter is now in K. She is reading, understands complex math, and LOVES school. I wish they had more time in art, but this school is amazing!

My son is in 1st grade. I have only great things to say about all his teachers, Kindergarten, 1st grade and all special area teachers. Laurel Hill is the best school your kid can go.

Not happy at Laurel Hill this year. I have two children at Laurel Hill. Past years have been memorable and fun. This year there seems to be many changes. It is feeling very institutionalized this year. Teachers seem to be very unadaptive (one size fits all attitude). My child is not coming home with any artwork and there is hardly any music. I understand that the emphasis is academics, but there needs to be some fun for the children at these young ages. I hope this school goes back to the way it used to be. Let kids be kids!

I have 2 children at Laurel Hill. They are in Kindergarten and 1st Grade and both teachers welcome volunteers in the classrooms. I am not sure what teacher the parent below is talking about. I believe the school is very well run! You are welcome there at any time. The kindergarten teacher does not expect her class to sit on the carpet at any one time for more than 10-15 minutes before they are up and on to another activity.

We LOVE Laurel Hill. It is the absolute best school in the entire district. The principal, is energetic, engaged, and appreciative of every teacher, assistant, and volunteer. They are restricted in some aspects, because of the overcrowding, large class size, lack of district support, and of course, funding! The emphasis on academics is driven by the state standards (not the school), and in my opinion, are far below where they need to be. SC is ranked the worst in the nation, and all of our kids can do so much better! Our daughter is in Kindergarten and loves LHPS. She reads at a 3rd grade level, but b/c the district does not offer a gifted program for primary grades, she is bored. This is our only frustration.

School is a good school if you only care about academics. There is a lack of art and creativity. Teachers seem to have no creativity. Children are expected to sit still at all times. There is no singing or creativity. Over the past year it seems as if volunteers are not allowed in classroom. Big changes over the past year and not for the better. Disappointing

This is my yougest aughter's third year at Laruel Hill Primary and we could not be happier with the school. The leadership and the teachers all seem to be on the same page as far as direction and focus on the students.

Both of our children attended Laurel Hill last year. One has moved on to third grade at Pinckney and the other is still at Laurel Hill in first grade. We couldn't be more pleased with school. Great teachers, a fantastic principal, very friendly and helpful front office staff, and wonderful facilities. The academic program seems strong, but more importantly, we saw the teachers go out of their way to make sure the more advanced children are properly challenged while also ensuring that the less advanced children are given the time and attention they need. Much better than the one size fits all teaching we saw in our last school. And that was coming from a highly-ranked school district in Northern Virginia. We had very high expectations for the schools after doing some research before we moved down here. Neither of the schools has disappointed.

Laurel Hill is a wonderful learning environment! I am a parent and a substitute teacher. My son loved Laurel Hill. He is leaving to go to third grade.
