Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The Academy is school that is innovative, student-centered, and is majors based. Students choose to come to study one of the nine majors offered, in addition to their academic subjects. The Academy faculty, staff and students are like a family. Students can feel safe while engaging in a rigorous curriculum.

Words cannot adequately describe all that the ASST is, and the profound effect this wonderful environment has upon our children. AAST students get a first rate education in a caring environment that allows them to be who they are providing they act responsibly and with respect for others. Administration, faculty and staff treat students (and parents too if they choose) like family. My child has blossomed and moved on to college and will excel because she had the privilege of attending the Academy for Arts, Science and Technology. It does what an educational institution should do and much more.

My son has loved attending the AAST & has grown academically in leaps and bounds. He has always had an idea of his future education and has been able to hone all of skills toward his goal. He is in the Pre-Engineering classes since being a Junior, now that he is a Senior he is still working towards Engineering and has his future well in hand. We have been so pleased at all he has done and how well the school has been able to assist with all of the Teachers.

My school is the best because it's preparing me for the career, can your high school do that? Also it isn't a school, it's home, a haven, an escape from your outside life. This school does more than teach. It builds a strong foundation to built upon for life, to not only benefit me, but my future children, and their children, and so on.

I love AAST so much, it's given me a home away from home.I learn things about my preferred major (art) every day. My Art teacher, Mr. Spivey has to be the best teacher I've had thus far. He's inspired me to push the envelope, but not only in my art. He has me trying even harder than ever before to get good grades in my academics.

This school was truly amazing. AAST has so much to offer students. Not only do they have relevant and current majors to choose from, they offered honor academic classes as well. You think of schools like this as for those who just want to graudate and learn a trade, but this school is not like that at all. While you have that option, you also can learn a trade/business and prepare for college. Not only are the courses offered exceptional, the building itself is something to see. It was an experience I am so glad my son was able to have and hope my daughter will attend when she is a junior.

I am a junior in college now and went to the Academy for my junior and senior years of high school. It was the best experience i had in my educational career. I met new friends, the teachers were wonderful, and it felt like a family not a school. Walking into college my first week of freshmen year i felt 100% confident in the major transition i was making. I owe it all to my family at the Academy of Arts, Science and Technology, truely the best school.

At my school, I am not a number. I am meaningful, I am vivid, I am full of hope, hard work, and ambition. My teachers are not only teachers but friends, confidantes, people who inspire me and push me even when there may be no one else to believe. My school is a place where even the most unlikely dreams are encouraged and strengthened so that some day we, as students, will look back at our lives, draw the strength out of them which we accumulated, and continue to challenge ourselves by achieving our dreams and creating new ones. My school taught me to look beyond myself into the global landscape and to forgive ourselves because we are small but at the same time to try because it only takes one person to save a life, protect a forest, influence the world.

The Academy is the best public 'private' school in the nation--I would bet. It's faculty is devoted to the whole student and the whole school. It is the definition of family. At a time when schools are slack, teachers don't care and neither do students; the Academy stands as a wonderful exception. My daughter attended (she's now in college) and I was beyond impressed with not only the curriculum but the individual attention and honest feeling of teamwork. My daughter thrived in this environment (even though she admitted it was so much harder than her base school) for her Arts major. The work required was meaningful and challenging. She grew and developed in so many ways--along with other students whom I came to know. Every teacher, every administrator shares the mission: excellence. This is a jewel for the county and the country.

My name is Elken D. Grate and The Academy of Arts, Sciences and Technology (AAST) helped place me on a path to Grateness. I graduated from AAST in June of 2004 and moved on to pursue my college career at Coker College of Hartsville, South Carolina. AAST offered much more then book knowledge which propelled me to even higher levels of gratification and success. This distinctive school tailored its curriculum toward providing the 'Best Work, the First Time, On Time.' The Academy provided a unity and family-like atmosphere much like Cheers 'Where everyone knows your name.' The professors were and remain a brilliant team of the greatest teachers anyone would love to become acquainted. While there I acquired the vital qualities needed for the next steps of life which acted as the footprints to my grand pursuit of happiness. The Academy helped me succeed in college with its unique approach of striving for a better excellence while educating every student. The Academy is a wonderful school with tactile qualities, in which not only lead me on the path to become a proud professional today but encouraged me to return the love offered within my two years attending AAST. Today, I am a professional artist: public speaker, photographer, graphic artist, multidesigner, and poet. I am decorated with many achievements accredited to deciding that for my last to years of high school The Academy of Arts, Sciences and Technology was My school of choice.

I went to the Academy and graduated in 2009. I majored in Education where Cathy Hall was my major teacher. She changed my life in a huge way. She helped me figure my path in life, and she was one of many teachers there that did. I could go on talking for days about my amazing experiences with my Academy family, but we don't have that much time so in conclusion I just want to say The Academy inspired me, guided me, and most importantly encouraged me. They told me I could do anything in this world I wanted to do, and they backed me up for those two years and are still backing me up today. I wish every child had the opportunity to experience the family love and guidance The Academy gave me, but I know that is not possible. With your help they could become even greater. Please look closely at The Academy for the Arts Science and Technology when making your decision.

AAST changed my high school career! The faulty truly cares about each of their students and is always around to give advice or help in any way. The school is divided into majors, where students develop a family like environment with their peers in the career or subject area of their choice. Not only did I receive a very well-rounded education (the Academy offers college, honors, and AP classes), I also had the chance to go out into my local community and do volunteer work and work in local schools. I also went to two trips to Europe and New York through AAST, and got a chance to intern and create a very individual project my senior year. Going to the Academy really changed my high school experience and prepared me for college, and the rest of my future

I went to the Academy my 11th & 12th grade year and it was truly the best two years of my life. The teachers became like family to me, they all work so hard to make sure students are comfortable, understand the work they put in front of them, and they are so understanding to students in any type of situation. AAST is not your average high school. It's a place where people of all different color, age, background, etc come together to display their talents to one another. The students open personality's make everyone feel accepted and that is very rare in high schools. The teachers make up the other half of why this school is so great. The teachers here really connect with their students they know how to make us laugh, what to say when we're sad, and how to teach us in a way that we understand. These teachers demand your best and due to their kind spirits you want to give it to them. They give you every opportunity possible at this school and even when you don't take advantage of that opportunity they won't give up on you. They make you succeed. This school is not just a building for learning it's building of hope, preparation, and family. AAST deserves to be named America's favorite school.

I love my school the teachers there are so cool and they actually care about the individual student not just the class as a whole, they really make sure you know how to do the work. Also we are a smaller school of about only 500 students which is great because we don't have to worry about overcrowding and also it is a lot quieter and the students are a lot more mature. I think we could really use the extra money though so that we can get some better equipment for our students.

My child attended the summer scholars program and he really enjoyed it. He said the classes and teachers were awesome and he really had a great time and learned alot too. I think this is a great program for those who are unsure of what their child wants to do during the summer, cause it gives them an opportunity to try different things without a long committment. I wish that it would have run longer than just 2 weeks and it would offer some acting or theater type of classes. I think the Myrtle Beach area could use more drama for the arts courses, there are alot of talent children in the area, but not enough course in the arts for growth opportunities.
