All of the other reviews here are from years ago, as long ago as 8 years. If you are considering sending your child to this school, please rethink your decision. The school is mismanaged. They are hurting financially and are asking for extra money above and beyond the school tuition from everyone from parents to grandparents to former students. Parts of the building are old and run down and much of their equipment is old and out of date. Beware.
My son has been at the Academy for the last four years, during his middle school years. I have been more than happy with this school. Although not every teacher may be considered the best, they are all caring and he has learned a great deal. I especially love the atmosphere at this school. It is a very small school and one in which everyone knows your name. It is the type of school that you don't worry about sending your child to. You know they will be safe. There are virtually no discipline problems. There is a big emphasis on academics and respect. The sports program is small but still good. The soccer team won first in state this year! Can't get better than that!
Our Children have attended the Academy for the past 6 years and we have been very pleased with there overall education. We have always taken our children's education very seriously and having other parents feel the same way is very refreshing. The academic programs from K-3/4th grade are excellent! We do feel that the middle school grades 5-7 while very good could be as excellent if the teaching staff would take a little more time in preparing lesson plans and modernizing their approach to current educational techniques. Although, there aren't as many extracurricular activities as you might find in the public school system there is still enough for everyone to be involved in something. Parent involvement is not only encouraged it is very high! My children have been very happy and I feel have received a well-rounded education from the Academy.
My daughter attended the academy for 7 years. While we had our share of 'less than the best' teachers, the overall quality was excellent. There does seem to be more and more children with some type of ld going there, but i believe it's because of the individualized attention. However, it never interferred with my child's education. Discipline at the school is better than at most, probably because the majority of parents share similar values and thoughts on the subject. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged, which i think helps. Being a private school, the academy is a little short on extracurricular activities, but still offers enough variety that a child can be involved in something if they are so inclined. More emphasis on academic excellence as opposed to atheletic excellence.
