This is the best high school in Rock Hill, from all the stuff I've heard about the others. My son started brand new here, not knowing ANYBODY, and people were so kind and friendly. He is also in the band program which is PHENOMENAL here because they take it seriously and are very involved and do a lot of competitions. Don't be fooled though, it is hard work, but these kids do it! My son is a junior this year, I look forward to his graduation next year.
I am very concerned about the cell phone policy at our school district. The current policy mandates the following: 1st offense is confiscating the phone for the remainder of the week. 2nd offense phone is confiscated for remainder of semester. 3rd offense phone is confiscated for remainder of school year. We understand the need to implement a tough cell phone policy in our schools to ensure a productive learning environment, but there are better alternatives then leaving our children without a way to contact parents or authorities in emergency situations. Confiscating our children s cell phones overnight potentially can put our children at risk. Many students walk to and from school and need to be able to make a phone call to parents or authorities if they are faced with an emergency citation. Students that drive to school who potentially need help if they break down or get into an accident. Single family homes that depend on cell phones to keep in touch with children while parents are working. Students attending football games or movies might need the phone to arrange alternate transportation.
The focus of this school is more about appearance than accademic performance. They care more about what is on your body then what goes into your brain. The policies of this school is just plain dumb. You are only allowed 10 absences regardless of medical excuse. They do not care if you are under a doctors care, and if you miss more than 10 days they send you to make-up school. You do not do anything in makeup school other than sit for 8 hours. They do not teach, nor do they care if you made up missed assignments. You still go to make up school, and you have to pay for each day that you missed over 10.
