My son transferred to SME from K to 1st grade. Upon entering 1st grade, he was tested for reading and math levels. His math was superb, at a 3rd grade level, but his reading was sorely lacking. He tested at a pre-kindergarten level. SME put him in an 18 week reading recovery program. After getting the basics (finally) he completed that program in only 8 weeks, and to boot, at an almost 4th grade level! Kudos to SME, they know how to help their kids get the basics. They do not promote the kids who haven't learned the basics, for whatever reasons. They don't think it's fair to do so. My son is extremely intelligent. I told his Kindergarten teacher that he memorizes things, she didn't listen. I'm so glad that he's here, at SME. He needed that extra help, and kick in the pants. fyi In his 2nd grade year, he made the A/B honor roll for the entire year!
