I could not ask for a better school, staff or administration. I have 2 children, one with some special needs who is behind and one with some special needs who way ahead. Mrs. I (4th grade) is an amazing teacher, she uses her own free time to help me help my daughter. She is patient, organized, giving and just a blessing to have teaching my little girl. Mrs. W (1st grade) is a fantastic teacher who uses the most creative ways to get my sons attention. She has a gift for getting the most distracted child to focus and we are blessed to have her teaching our little boy. The front office is run by the most friendly and competent woman, whenever I call I can get the help I need. The principal is a woman who is also available any time to help and she really cares about each child. EVERY person in this school cares about each child, each parent and the school as a whole. I've even had a chance to work with the librarian a bit and she is fantastic as well. SIES motivates the children their to achieve their potential. I feel blessed and thankful to have the gift of sending my children to this phenomenal Magnet School. Thank you everyone at SIES for all you do!
Parents are very involved, low child-to-teacher ratio, community setting, and dedicated teachers!
The teachers care and the enviornment is wonderful. My child had a great 6 years at SIES.
I had two children attend this school in the past 3 years (K-5). The school is amazing! The teachers are wonderful. It's immaculate, bright and a very cheery place. The library has 180 degree views of the Atlantic Ocean. Very rewarding school all around. What a wonderful experience for any child who can attend this school. We were so fortunate to find this school! All the programs and parents are wonderful. After school program is amazing. They have strings for 5th grader. Everything is included. Very low fees. The parents are highly involved in fund raising, but aren't annoying. Great memories for any child here. A school on the beach--how can you compare? It doesn't get any better than Sullivan's Island Elementary.
Since my child has been attending this school, it's been 'I hate' school'. This was never an issue at other schools. I find the atmosphere stifling and repressive. The children (even K level) are not allowed to speak during lunch and recess is only 15-20 minutes for the entire day. My child is stressed all the time. There is very little creativity and independence. My child has refused to think and waits for answers instead. Definitely missing that love of learning which is critical. Somehow, most parents I meet think that this is acceptable for their children.
Great school, wonderful teachers. But, public school beaurocracy exists. Thankfully, there is a great group of parents and volunteers and private foundation which supports the school in many ways.
