Best school with the Drill team. Also if you stay smart and excel in all subjects then you will love this school because i know i do.
AHS is a wonderful school! My children will go there! I have to agree some teachers may not care but 99% of the staff does care! I am in school at USC and i still call on my former teachers for some additional help. Not one of them have ever turned me down! I will also say that the 1% of staff members that don't care usually are the ones that pick favorites when it comes to football players, cheerleaders etc. But trust me all you have to do is speak with an administratior and you will be pleased because they will handle all situations approatily!! Give AHS a chance it is an amazing school with wonderful staff!
I am a student at airport high, i have attended this school all four years. I have come to realize that the a portion of the staff does not care. They try to put the school and staff on the news media just to look good. Honestly, its all a joke. Yes we do, do things that help our community and people that are in need. Although some of our administrative staff is ridiculous. Seems like they try anything in their power to keep you in trouble. It is the teachers word over a students. Why? Teachers can lie, just as well as anyone else. If you are a football player or in some type of sport and you do something that can get that person in trouble... You dont get the discipline you probably do deserve. It's sad when a teacher tells a student that their hard work is 'crap'
Airport high school is an excellent school with excellent teachers and administrators. I have been very impressed with a teacher in the special education program, Ms Lorentz. She is a very caring and competent teacher who works tirelessly to better the lives of the students with whom she works. A super school with caring professionals!
I attended Airport High School myself. I have the last of my four children attending there now. One is graduating thursday. The other is a sophmore this year. I have found that overall, this is still a good school. Hat's off to Mr. Jovanelly! He is awesome!
I've attended three high schools in during my education, and of those I would have to say that Airport was the best. The teachers really get to know their students and there is a lot of one on one interaction when, for instance, a child is failing a subject. Teachers really go above and beyond to help their students. Also, Airport has a vast array of extra curricular activities and sports. Most of the time students even start their own clubs if they can find a teacher to supervise it. Sometimes the schools policies are a bit backward because they change almost constantly, but once things get stable it gets better. Other than that, I would have to say that Airport is an excellent school.
Having attended airport high school and graduated in 2004 I would like to say that out of the 11 schools I attended as a child airport really went above and beyond their call of duty. As a response to one of the other reviews I am not related to any one in this district and have only lived here since the 8th grade. Airport is not about who you know it is simply how involved your student chooses to be. I joined the JROTC program as a freshman and it really changed my life. Not only did it make high school more fun, it taught me exceptional leadership qualities needed throughout life. So my review is basically.... Go EAGLES. and as always a big HOAAHH to the Airport high school JROTC drill team and the dept itself.
I know that giving AHS all 5s may seem a little bias, but as a 05 graduate I feel that I can. I feel that AHS full prepared me for college and the Faculty and Staff are absolutely wonderful. Our Principal, Frank Jovanelly, and all the other administators are the best in the world. The AHS community is loving, caring, supportive, blunt, crazy, sane, amazing, confusing, clear... every word in the book. The teachers are more than able to fully prepare their students for the real world and post-secondary education. I myself hope to one day be a part of this community again, when I finish my Undergraduate degree (which I started toward as a high school senior thanks to Mrs. Shealy, Mrs. Spires and others at AHS) and become a teacher myself. God Bless AHS for all her staff has done for me. I Love Y'all!
I attended Airport in the early 80's, and have had 3 out of my 4 children graduate from there as well. Things sure change with time. I wasn't aware of how true this was until each of my children started entering Airport. Our family's experience has been disappointing. It's all about numbers, from the schools athletic statistics, to their accadmic rank in the state statistics. Very, very seldom do you find staff with the time to actually learn who the student is, or the desire to take the opportunity. And if you don't think that gang, or 'gang-wanna be' activity is not present at Airport, take a few moments and talk to your child. One previous reviewer was correct, it's all about who you know, and how you are 'labeled', as to how much you can get away with. Thank goodness for home schooling programs!
What I dislike most about Lexington District 2 is there are far too many relatives employed in it. Talk about being a family! Many employees, though not blood relatives, have known each other since childhood and themselves attended Lexington District 2 schools. Naturally there is favoritism although that would be denied by the blood relatives and childhood buddies who are employed in Lexington District 2. Students certainly know this and have many times expressed their dismay and disappointment when one of their peers had advantages they didn't because they weren't 'family members.' Many parents of these 'outsiders' feel the same. Lexington District 2 would be a much better place for students if nepotism was not allowed!. I have two students in schools here. I was a substitute in Lexinton District 2 for years.
This is school is the best that I have been to and I have been to a lot of schools. The teachers and staff really care about the students.
This school is the best. We have the best teachers and by FAR THE BEST PRINCIPAL! Mr. Jovi, if you read this WE LOVE YOU! You're the best! Mrs. Coleman.. you are the best too! Thank you for all you do!
