After our child's first month we feel that this is an excellent school and the best choice we could have made. The school is wonderful in so many ways. Even with a "perfect" school there are days and things that may not go perfect in your child's day and the entire staff seems to want nothing more than to work on issues of difficulties that may arise. I would recommend this school and the entire staff to anyone who asked. The icing on the cake was seeing the principal and teachers getting ice cooler dumped over their heads. This shows not only the goal of academic excellence but sincere social inclusiveness. It is always pleasant picking our son up and dropping him off and we feel part of the school community and if there was an option to select 6 Stars we would.

The great thing about the Hermosa School is the teamwork of our staff and community. We work hard to provide our students with the highest quality education and we strive to meet the social needs of our students as well. We are a community of learners committed to being a school where "Students Come First!"

The 4 day week might be a concern, but you realize how many in-service days other schools take during the year. This school has high standards and a lot of 'common sense' things like a no cell phone policy. Love it

The four day school did concern me however the school does so good with gettig the kids the same education plus more that I am overall very happy.

'This school is a diverse learning experience just waiting to happen to any student who needs or wants an oppurtunity to be included in a great school. Hermosa may not be the newest school in Custer school district, but it's prestige in academics, sports, Teachers and leadership is among the highest in South Dakota. I reccomend this facility to anyone and everyone.'

More from this school
  • We are part of the Custer School District 16-1 in Custer County. We are about 15 miles south of Rapid City, SD in a rural, but growing community. We are currently aligning our standards to the Common Core State Standards and are using multiple measurements such as AIMSweb and NWEA to monitor student growth to be sure that all students are making progress in their learning. We also offer Special Education services to students of varying disabilities. We have a family oriented staff!!
