The History of Food
How you can help at home: Research the origins of food with your child and build their social studies skills.
By Miriam Myers , GreatSchools Staff
Have you ever wondered about the origins of different foods? Choose a food and research where it came from.
What You'll Need
- Computer with Internet connection
- Books about the history of food
Here's How to Do It
With your child, choose a food to learn about, then go online or to the library to research its history. For example, potatoes came from Peru. The Inca Indians were the first to cultivate them in about 200 B.C. Potatoes were then brought to Europe by Spanish explorers and eventually made their way to North America.
