A story map is a diagram of the events of a story in order. Making a story map is a fun art project that helps kids learn sequencing (how to distinguish the order of events), which helps with reading comprehension.
What you’ll need
- A book to read aloud
- Paper
- Crayons, markers or paints
How to do It
- Read a book aloud with your child. After reading, talk with your child about what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story. You can look back through the book together to gather information; try looking at the pictures or rereading passages.
- Have your child draw three events in order with an arrow between each drawing to represent the sequence of events. Have your child write or dictate a description of the event under each drawing.
