The No Child Left Behind Act states that the arts ARE a core subject!

Definitely! How boring would it be to take math, english, pe and only basic art every year??? I watch my kids and feel sad they don't get to experience shop, home ec, sewing, ceramics, etc.

I think it is very important. Most of these special kids can't do regular work and need the Arts to enjoy life more and have something they can excell at.

Arts education is more important than the so-called core subjects.Arts education is not how well a child can play a musical instrument or paint. It's teaching the child how everything is related to each other, be it language, math or science.

Yes, it certainly is. Learning how to express yourself is one of the most important skills a child can learn.

I do not put arts in the same subject as sports. Sports is wholly an extracurricular activity. Arts can teach you just as much in literature as English. For some it's easier to learn when taught this way. Why art isn't a core subject is beyond me
