Lakeside Academy is not a school for every child. If your child is not a hard worker they will not excel. If you child has behavioral issues you will have an issue with this school. Marsha Drake leads the school in her own way- to some parents she's off putting BUT she leads by example and hopes that the kids realize her expectation. It works with kids when the parent, teacher, and administration are on the same page. If you are a parent who expects the school to teach your child only -this is not the school for you. You will be involved due to the curriculum. If you feel no one should tell your child what they should and should not do or say -this is not the school for you. Children are expected to follow rules and expectations regardless if the parent says differently at home. If you are quick to tell your child when you don't agree with the story your child told you that you are going to go to the school and "tell the teacher off" without talking to the teachers to find out the whole story - do yourself a favor do not enroll your child in this school. No one expects much from inner city kids but Ms. Drake does and tries to enforce it in the school. She believes in these kids.
My child attended 2 yrs. 2010-11 at Lakeside and it was very disappointing. Mrs. Drake, the principal, is the most rude, unfriendly, sour educator I've ever seen. She may or may not even speak, depending on her mood. So many discipline problems in classroom keep the atmosphere chaotic . School population is mostly low income which resulted in very low parent participation at most events. My child's thirst for learning was snuffed out at this school!. Avoid school at all costs!!
The enviroment that my child is always in to me is a blessing. The teachers are constantly giving the children praises. For every 1 negative thing a child may do the teacher tries and gives them 5 positives.
