If you think this school is a five star, that means your not involved with what your child is actually learning there. Our child came from a city school to sycamore because of our change of location. We notice that our daughter was struggling in the beginning , but starting to improve greatly at home. Well, seems her report card didn't reflect that during the second semester and not only that, when questioned about her grades and reporting this to the AP, the teacher could not explain why a grade dropped were she was excelling and why did she change another grade after a visit to the AP office. Parents please spend time with your child to see if they are really learning what the teacher is really proclaiming that they are, or is that the teacher is just passing them along.
I cannot believe what I am reading about ESL at Sycamore. They have been picked as one of the best ESL programs in the country! No student gets into ESL based on their name or skin color. The ESL teacher explained that my son was tested because he spoke our language at home. The government makes the choice of who will be tested. Go look in the ESL room. It is filled with student work. The students work on the same things as my son's class. He says he knows things in his room because of ESL. When the teacher has to cancel, he is disappointed. Go see the school and the ESL. You will see peace and love. You will see kids learning. You will also see a teacher who loves the kids and makes them know they are smart. My son is doing better in reading and now loves books. If you want peace and love, Sycamore is the school for you. My son does not feel different and likes that our family tradition, language, and holidays are part of the school. Maybe you need to come to the school more and see all the love.
Last....One of the question i asked the teacher was to know how did you determine that my daughter must take ESL? she said that my daughter did not speak in class and also she did not play with other kids. I was like astonished:-. Well i assumed if i decided not to talk to anyone in my class I will be considered to be the dumbest student or the stupidest student then. I then told her that it is highly possible that she become Kindergarden teacher because she was not that smart, but that doesn't mean that she must study ESL to be K teacher. I could be a teacher if i want but that doesn't mean i can just look at a person and say that he needs to take special class because his name sounds different and he doesn't speak with others. Anyway, this really got me little upset, and i told her that all i want is create a better world for my daughter. Sycamore may be full of racists or whatever you want to call it but i will not let them put those negative attitude on my daughter. I wish she was learning from a school where kids innocent brains are learning peace and love, but i always tell my daughter to be happy because she is the best. No one is born racist we become one base on our living
I can't believe this school has gotten so many positive reviews. Get real, people. Or, maybe you have never been exposed to a really great elementary school with a truly hard-working and caring staff? We moved to Memphis from San Antonio, Tx for a job change. My boys were in first and second grade. My oldest has Autism. I went to the school one day for a pop in visit. I was told an administrator would have to accompany me down the hall to my son's classroom. I said fine, please get an administrator. I was sent to the assistant principal's office. While I sat in her office, she attempted to call my son's teacher to let her know we were on the way! She couldn't get through to the teacher, so off we went to the classroom. The classroom was empty, however, the resource room was right across the hallway. My son is full-inclusion. BUT, turns out he was in that resource room in a closet playing with a broom while the resource teacher sat at her desk having lunch and chatting with the aid. When she saw me and the AP, she looked like she was about to choke on her noodles! She called me that night at my home and apologized profusely. Very creepy school. We got back to Texas asap!
We moved from CA school district to this school district and I love it. The teachers are absolutely amazing, helpful very nice. My son loves this school. I am so glad we are in the school district. The curriculum is pretty nice. All the staff are very friendly.
I have temporary custody of my granddaughter so it has been years since I was affiliated with school, especially elementary. This is a public school that is operated on a private school level. The staff ranging from the crossing guard to the principle is phenomenal and plays an intricate part in each student attending this school. It is amazing to see the staff, parents, and community coming together to support the efforts regarding the functionality of this school. The common denominator that is fostered by all is equipping each student to be the best. When the school introduced the new core standards I received a recorded message at 4 pm that day of a meeting that would be held at 5:30 that day. Within a short period of time I witnessed parents filling the cafeteria. To me, this is a clear indication the commitment level of the parents with children that make up this population of an extraordinary institution. They are not only providing an education but they are teaching the children to adapt in the world. It is truly a partnership that is engaged by the staff and the parents. Sycamore you are the BEST!
SyCamore is a hidden gem in the Town of Collierville. The facilities, the technology and maps classes (art, pe, music, spanish, and library) are great. The staff is wonderful. They are always friendly and helpful. The teachers are awesome. They are great teachers and really prepare the children for middle school. They do a great job of communicating with the parents. The guidance counselor is without a doubt above the rest. This women really cares about every child and is there to help them all regardless of age, color, or economic status. The principal is outstanding. She is truly there to help every child excel and do their best. I believe that Dr. Bulter and Ms. Kohne (counselor) know the name of every child. This is a school that cares about it students above all else. I am glad that we are in this school's district. It is the best school in Collierville.
Sycamore continually out scores all the elementary schools in the Collierville area. It is staffed by the finest teachers Shelby Co. has to offer. They are innovative, original and are always on top of their game. My daughter started there in kindergarten and just moved into 6th grade. She was well prepared to meet the challenges of middle school. Also I have a son there in the 4th grade who is always challenged academically. I am so grateful that we chose a house in the neighborhood when we moved here! I love the fact that they can walk or ride their bikes to school and home.
My 2 boys graduated from Sycamore Elementary and were more than prepared for middle school. The teachers were nurturing, encouraging and challenged kids at different levels. The principal makes it a point to know every single child at Sycamore! I have no idea how she does it, but she even remembers kids long after they graduate and come back to visit.
Best school ever!! Love the school - love the neighborhood! I've never seen a community support a school like this. Great teachers and administration plus a beautiful facility!
Sycamore E.S. is a great school! All the staff are very helpful. They have a lot of parent volunteers and community involvement. They have a great academic program!
Sycamore Elementary is an outstanding school. The teachers are the best around..The school has all the updated resources, with an EXCEPTIONAL learning enviroment. Children can walk to school and feel safe. It is located in the middle of Estanaula Trial Subdivision , come find the BEST KEPT SECRET in Collierville..
Sycamore has a wonderful principal and staff! The parents are very involved. Great PTA! Great school!
Both of my girls went through SyCamore. You will always find the "C" in SyCamore capitalized because Dr. Butler says "C" is of children! This staff knows every child by name. The school sits in a GREAT Neighborhood with low traffic and no crime. The school is ahead of most in regards to technology. Children leaving SyCamore are well prepared for middle school. Lots of involvement from parents! I would recommend this school and surrounding neighborhoods to anyone.
Excellent school. I have 1 alum and 2 current students. Dr. Butler is the best Principal in town. Great location in upscale neighborhood. Very Low Traffic area. Great parent and teacher support. If you are looking for a "the" public school with private school qualities, look no further...SYCAMORE IS IT!
Great school and would recommend it to anyone trying to move into this area with young children. The principal knows everyone by name and has the children's best interest at heart.
Great school! Sycamore Elementary gives a great educational foundation for middle school and high school. I have had three children go through school at Sycamore Elementary.
We had 3 children attend Sycamore Elementary and we found it to be an exceptional, nurturing and challenging environment for our children. The school is top notch in the area of technology--ahead of other Collierville schools--with the use of computers and educational software in the classrooms as well as Smart Boards. The community surrounding the school is extremely supportive and there is high parental presence and involvement at Sycamore. The principal, Dr. Butler, is phenomenal! Not only is she knowledgeable, but she loves those Sycamore children and they love and respect her as well. I would highly recommend Sycamore!
I had two children at Sycamore Elementary. We moved into the district once school started and could not have been happier with the teachers our children were placed with. Dr. Butler (principal) knows and greets each student by name. Within weeks she knew my name. My boys were well prepared for middle school.
Excellent school, great teachers, involved parents and students who are challenged with academics and striving to do their best in all walks of life. We moved here for this elementary school. We have stayed living in our subdivision to stay in this elementary school's district. We have 2 children, 1 who has gone through 6 years and 1 who has attended for 3 years. Great results!
