This is a school that is aware of its short comings. There has been an administrative change at the top. The teachers are young the classes are small. the best way for any school to excel is with parent cooperation which seems to be the biggest problem. This is rare gem to be polished by the community.
I am thankful that I still live in the same area to where my child can go to this school. It is a small environment and everyone knows who each person is. I feel that my child would be safe and secure in that school and can get the proper education he needs.
The teachers and administrators at Smoky are all really great people, however I do not feel like my children are challenged to their full potential. I feel that the school needs to implement more programs for children getting 'easy A's' to give them more to think about and challenge their little brains :)
I'm a parent with two children at Smoky Mtn. School. I like the school, they do take care of the children, they do know who your children on a first name basis and know most all the parents as well. If something doesn't go well or I have questions I go get answers. A parent has to be just as involved as any teacher in their childs safty and education. We need them as much as they need us to help in our childrens lives. So before I decided against a school I would go visit the school and the staff and see first hand if this school is what I need for my Family.
School faculty needs lots of improvement. Teachers and principal seem to have gotten away from the fact that education is their primary goal! Safety and discipline should really be taken into account by school officials as well. Even though the school is fortunate to have a lot of caring parents that try to stay involved in their childrens education, school faculty does not involve parents as much as they should, and parents are even lied to at times to protect the school staff. If you are thinking about sending a child to this school, I would seriously think of another alternative. My children still attend the school, unfortunately, I am a single parent and my work schedule does not allow me the opportunity to transport my children to another school.
