Cosby High School

If you're moving to the area from someplace like Florida or New York, you'll find the ENTIRE Cocke County School system is lacking. Cosby is the lesser of two evils when it comes to the social issues. There are fights and such, but Cocke County HS is far more violent. The education is basic at best and many of the kids who graduate have a hard time with basic reading and math skills. That doesn't seem to be a problem though as many of the kids are here for life and have no major aspirations. The parents are involved to a degree but the politics are terrible and if you aren't from here, forget it. Also, be prepared to have Basic Bible (mostly Baptist) 101 shoved down their throats in the guise of "teaching history". The ACLU would have a field day here. For parents who pay attention, you'll find frequent calls to the teachers and principle for teaching their political and religious beliefs as fact are the norm. need to make a complaint? Forget it, the person you are complaining about is most likely related to someone high up in the school board and it'll fall on deaf ears.

I don't believe that Cosby is up to par nationally at all. The students there are constantly getting into fights and there are little to no consequences. There are a couple of decent teachers, but Cosby has to rely heavilly on the neighboring high school, Cocke County high school, for most of its programs. I've strongly disliked this school, for I am an advanced student, and don't get near as many opportunities as students from schools in other counties. I am transfering next year

Cosby High is an awesome scool. The Staff there really care about where these kids are going with their lives. The kids there highly respect their elders as well as their classmates.

I myself attended and my children are now attending cosby high school. The teachers are great they get to know the students and work with them giving them time to do extra credit if needed. The sports at Cosby are great with alot of parents involved, however, it would be better if the polotics were left out of it. The leadership is ok, it is actually some of the same people as when I attended, so they have years of experience. Overall this is a great school and a great communitee.
