I am a former student. I went there from 1974-1976.Even though I have gone to many schools over the years I actually was treated pretty decent. Definately better than other schools. But then again the school was new when I and my cousin attended. It was open classroom then I have no idea what they are now but back in the day we graded our own papers. Plenty chance to be sneaky even though I was not there were chances. I sure hope things have turned around since then. But on average I think it was a goods chool.

This school, although with great education, has very unsatisfactory qualities that will be brought to your attention if your child goes there. They have a very strict system, with little room to adapt. By sending your child to this school you trade his/her happiness for a decent education.

I rate Livesay M.S. average because it has both good and bad attributes and I'm on the fence as to whether or not my child will continue to attend next year. I understand middle school can be some of the most difficult years for a student. However, my child's natural age-appropriate dislike of school has turned into a real bitterness that must be addressed for his own health and benefit. I believe the root cause for his deep bitterness towards Livesay M.S. stems from an overriding culture that appears to treat all students as bad students. But, to the credit of the school, all these bad students are treated with equal disrespect. It's just the culture that's the problem. The culture emphasizes security and order, at the expense of student health and happiness. I pray for guidance on this important decision I face. Thank you

This has been a great transition school for my son coming from a small private school. If you are looking for a generally safer crowd your kids will be exposed to then this is the right school. My son's social skills has definitely improved. The only complaint I have with this school is that although they do have a special ed. class they very much lack the resources of helping gifted children like mine. I only hope that they can address this too. It's only fair to give as much attention to gifted kids as they do special kids. After all they too are outside of the norm. And also, this school also has different intellectual level per grade where a student that belongs to a slow class may have straight A's just because their pace is slower when in the real world they really are in the average level.

I have to say the first post is 100% dead on. My children previously attended excellent public schools and I have been in the education field for almost 13 years, so I know what a good school looks like. At this school, there is a prison-like environment and fun is not an integral part of the learning process. This school is stuck in the fifties with it's rote learning techniques. The children very seldom have access to the outdoors in any capacity and they are herded from room to room like cattle, even 7th and 8th graders. No art and music, and heaven forbid you ask why. It is a school of generations and if you and your children aren't in those cliques, forget it. The good reviews on here are obviously from those people or their children.

The best thing about this school is that it has the 'No child left behind' policy that enables all students to have a good education. I love sending my kids here!

I love attending this school, i have been here ever since fifth grade, and now i am in eighth. This school is awesome, the teachers are all really nice and caring about your needs inside, and outside of school, the principal is nice, and the staff is wonderfull. I like this school because it is always clean, and it gives us the education we need to succeed.

HY Livesay is a great school! The teachers are very concerned about the students. The principal is awesome! All the kids like him, and he's great with parents. The education system in this school is aimed to give kids a great foundation. They have boys and girls basketball teams with absolutely wonderful coaches! HY Livesay is the best middle school in the county, by far. Just look at their average test scores.

I think that this school is way too strict. many people are failing because the teachers dont explain it good enough to every student and doesnt give them enough indevidual learning....also the teachers hardly ever let them talk or anything i sent my child there for one month but quickly tranfered her to powell valley where i think she will get the better education that she deserves and where the teachers acually want to teach. thanks.

After having two children at Livesay, I must say I think it's a wonderful school. From the principal, teachers, office staff, lunch ladies, custodians, etc. my children have always received personal attention. They have excelled academically (one is now a Junior in high school) and have received the core knowledge they need to provide a firm educational foundation. I highly recommend Livesay to anyone!!

This is an excellent school. The teachers really seem to care about the students. However, the related arts department is lacking.
