This school has something for every student. The IB program is great for the very academic. The fine arts, drama and production/TV station are all superb. Solid vocational classes available as well. Great sports teams and band too. The healthy diversity of the students keeps GHS from being too "cliquish". The overall atmosphere is vibrant, but relaxed and content. All schools have issues, but our kids feel safe and happy here. We are very pleased with our children's experience.

The IB program is rigorous & challenging & the teachers are inspired, dedicated, & hard-working. My son is pleased that he made the switch from private to this public school. The fine arts program is exceptional. GHS has great school spirit, excellent teachers, strong leadership, and excellent academics.

This is an excellent school. Not only has a great program (International Baccalaureate), but also has a great band. The band director Mr. Byrd is strict to his students. I feel that my child will have a good learning experience there. They care more about students learning than money. All band members including freshmen are audited to the band, and they charge very reasonable band fees. Germantown High School is great! It is getting better and better...

Germantown High is a great school! It is getting better since Southwind High School was built in 2007. The school office stuffs are very friendly and helpful. Principal Mr. McIntyre is very involved in student activities. It offers International Baccalaureate (IB) program that best prepares students for the college. I would get it 10/10!

Great School, I have 2 enrolled, both are very active and enjoy school. Mr Mac (principal) is very involved, knows the students by name, and is at nearly all after school events. This is a great school for the arts, has an awesome band, and is IB

It's a wonderful school! It's really clique-free, the academies is wonderful and our extracurricular programs are amazing. We're all just part of the same group and the school environment is great. Also, walking around an open campus is awesome!

I have three children that have attended Germantown High School. It is an excellent school with wonderful Administration/Teachers/Counselors. My oldest son graduated in 2004 and went on to graduate from college Magna Cum Laude. I feel that his teachers at GHS prepared him to achieve that goal. He has now decided to attend Graduate school and become a teacher. My daughter graduated in 2007 and again I feel that her experience at GHS prepared her for college. My youngest daughter is currently a sophomore at GHS and is enrolled in the IB program. Every thing about GHS has been a positive experience for my children.

The environemnt is very friendly and open amongst the students. I, myself, am in the IB program, and it is quite rigorous. The teachers, for the most part, are able to teach in either a traditional or hands-on way. The Fine Arts department is amazing, and helpin to prepare students for their life after high school whether it be in the arts or not. There are very few fights, and the surrounding community is always reaching a helping hand towards the school.

I am about to graduate in May of 2009, and all four years that I spent at Germantown high have been the best. The school offers so many programs in which us students can excel and tons of extracuricular activites (sports and clubs). The school allows the students to make thier own decisions when it comes to picking class schedules. The school is also set up like a college campus so students can be prepared for college. The teachers are excellent and are really passionate about the subjects they teach. Overall Germantown High is a great school that prepares students for college and vocational schools.

May 2008 My son is a freshman at Germantown High. He loves the school. The teachers are wonderful and very caring. The office staff is very kind every time you walk in the doors of Germantown High. This school is on the way upward. I graduated from Germantown in 1982, and was a little hesitate for my child to go there. A wonderful school. I am very high on Germantown High!

My daughter is finishing her freshman year at GHS. She came from Riverdale, which is a much smaller school, so I was a little worried about how she would manage at GHS. She has been extremely happy this year. She loves her teachers and is doing very well. GHS has so much to offer!

I have two sons at GHS this year. They are both involved in extra-curricular activities. This has been good for each of them. The new principal is wonderful! He is visible and available to the students and the parents. He attends school events regularly. The students seem to respect him and like him. He is doing great things to focus on the positives and improve the overall atmosphere of the school. I hope he will remain as principal for at least the next three years! On the downside, I wish that the teachers would communicate with the parents more often. Some ot them do respond to e-mail, and others do not. Both of my sons have lower grades than I expect them to have. We are working on this at home. If your child will get involved at GHS, he or she will have a good high school experience.

I have a daughter who graduated in 1977 - GHS was great and accomodated her schedule as we moved there in the latter part of her Jr. year. I have two grandsons who have or are attending GHS. The one who graduated in 2004 was poorly educated and motivated. Even after many conferences, he was lost in the system. The other will graduate this 2007-08 year. He is doing well. However, he is in honor and AP courses. Otherwise, he would not be there. - A Grandparent.

My oldest daughter graduated from Germantown in 2000 and for the most part it was a great school with great teachers that really cared. My youngest daughter graduated from Germantown in 2005 and by that time things had changed in a bad way. One of her teachers was engaged to be married and was way too open with the class about her relationship with her fiance. Other teachers did not seem to care and made it obvious they did not like their jobs. Just a few of her teachers really took their job seriously and were there to help and to educate.

My son started Germantown as a freshman in 2002 and my daughter in 2003. I took my kids out in 2004 because it was clear that the school was on a path of decline.I was not happy with the way discipline issues were handled by Mr. Downing.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Tennessee used the Gateway/End-of-Course (EOC) exams to test high school students in language arts, math, science, and social studies upon completion of relevant courses. Students must pass the algebra I, English II, and biology I tests, called the Gateway exams, in order to graduate. This year, Tennessee introduced two new exams in algebra II and English III, and those results are included on the GreatSchools profile as well. The Gateway/EOC exams are standards-based tests that measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Tennessee. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
