Most schools are places students dread going to every morning. Not Riverdale, I call Riverdale staff, faculty, and students my family because they treat my like family. I don't wake up every morning and say "ughhh school" I actually look forward to it. I look forward to hearing the office staff say "good morning!" and "have a great day sweetheart!" I look forward to walking down the halls and seeing a 'little one' who gives me a tight hug. I look forward to around 8:10 every morning when Mr.Bond comes on the announcements and tells us all the fun activites and events coming up soon. I look forward to our basketball games when a sea of blue t-shirts floods into the gym shouting "LET'S GO RAIDERS LETS GO *TWO CLAPS* " My point is that I truly enjoy being a Riverdale Raider and I couldn't be prouder no matter what. I love Riverdale!!!

Its been almost a year since my kid stared going to Riverdale . We moved to 4 states prior to coming here and out of all the schools my son has been to this school is he most rude and unfriendly school we have ever seen. we find the staff rude and insensitive and treat parents as bad influence on their kids . They have zero transparency and discourage parents to any sort of communication to their teachers . Infact many have complain that they push the parents that parent feel intimidated. Riverdale is proud of being 9 out of 10 school grade and has gotten snobbish , but they should never forget that if they continue pushing off the parents and maintaining a parent unfriendly attitude it will not take them longer to be 2 out of 10 . I hope some one from the "rude" staff reads it and be more sensitive towards the parents .

We love Riverdale. Our boys have attended since Kindergarten and we all couldn't be happier. We miss our beloved retired principal but the number 2 got the job and so far things are still great. We moved to Germantown in this school district to attend and not attend the city schools after being annexed. Just praying now that we are "unified" things don't change much. Great staff, teachers and conselors.

We moved from New Orleans without knowing a soul up here. Of course we wanted the best for our child, naturally we said "private school". But, then we saw the tuition...I could send my child to LSU for less. So, we looked around at our public school options. Riverdale was absolutely the way to go. K-8th makes an unbelievable difference. I believe it keeps out some of that JrHigh attitude I have witnessed at other facilities we had toured. The teachers Really love what they do! My daughter has never been happier, which is a miracle in it self for a child who "hates" school. My only concern is the new redistricting they are about to do. I hope we don't get zoned out :-(

What a great school! We did months of research and communicating with several schools in Germantown before moving here. Riverdale stood out above the rest! We have been so happy! What a great school and staff. Without a doubt the best in the State and being K-8 it is the best!

Five years ago, I reviewed Riverdale as a mom of an elementary student. But now, I can review the school as a mom to an elementary and middle school student. The middle school grade levels are as impressive as the elementary. My greatest concern five years ago was a lack of extracurricular activities but that has definitely improved over the years with the addition of new sports teams and after school clubs. It is a very friendly, welcoming, neighborhood school with involved parents and a wonderfully experienced yet innovative administration. A powerhouse combination that is so rare in public education.

My son has been a student at Riverdale School since kindergarten. Presently, he is in the sixth grade and I can proudly say that I would not trade our experience at Riverdale for any other school in Memphis. The principal, teachers and staff are all eager to offer support and encouragement to the students and parents. It is hard to imagine, but he will be leaving Riverdale in two years. It does make it easier knowing that he will be well prepared academically to meet the demands of high school. We truly love Riverdale !!

Riverdale is the only school in Shelby County that goes thru 8th grade. It has had the same principal for over 25 yrs and he's such a wonderful person. Likewise the teachers are excellent and this filters all the way down to the office personnel and the cleaning and cafeteria staff. It's such a relief to send my son off to school every day knowing he's receiving a top quality education and is safe. Many thanks to everyone at Riverdale!!

My nephew came to live with me in March of 2009. From the time we walked into the office, they staff has been so helpful and understanding. Because of circumstances, my nephew was a little behind on his grade level work. My nephew's teachers have gone above and beyond to help him adjust to his new school as well as encourage him as he works to get back to grade level. We could not have found a better school than Riverdale to help him make this difficult transition.

I love Riverdale because of all the wonderful teachers & staff. My daughter is in 1st grade & this is her 2nd year there. Both her Kindergarten & first grade teachers, are just great! She has learned so much & continues to everyday. She loves being there & I'm so glad we moved to Germantown so she can. I love the fact that she has the same principal her Daddy did when he went there! That matters to me. That shows his commitment to the school & that if he can stick with Riverdale for this long, that it's worth being there! :)

Riverdale has a long-standing tradition of excellence! There is little faculty/staff turnover because once people get 'in', they never want to leave! The K-8 atmosphere helps to enhance every student's experience - the older kids help with the younger kids which gives them a sense of community responsibility and the younger kids feel important because of the attention they receive from the older kids.

I was leary at first to enroll my daughter at a 'public school'. After all, my 8th grade son had been going to a private school since the beginning. When I first got to the office to pre-register my daughter, I was amazed at how friendly the office staff was; not only to me, but to the students coming in as well. Courtious, helpful, and full of smiles. It didn't take long into our first year at Riverdale to to be convinced that we made the right move. The teachers could not be more supportive and caring of the children. They were at their classroom door each morning waiting to greet the children. The principal, Mr Carlisle, has always been filled with positive things to say to the kids, and is full of encouraging words. There are numerous clubs and/or sports, activities, and events available for the students to participate in. There is something for everyone. The success of Riverdale school is also due to the overwhelming amount of volunteer hours that the parents give to help out at the school. It has helped the school save a lot of money!! Riverdale School is like a small community of caring people to make it the best it can be!!!!

I have had 4 children graduate from Riverdale. I always say it is the best kept secret in the state of TN. I cannot think of anything I would change about my childrens' experiences at Riverdale. The best part is the continuity of care/education due to the fact that it is a K-8 school, a wonderfully rare experience. The teachers/principal knew my girls by name and because they knew their character/personality so well, they knew if something wasn't right or if their was an educational/behavioral issue. I will always thank God for the gift of Riverdale School!

Since we are going to be leaving Memphis to move to Knoxville, I felt I owe at least this much to Riverdale! This school is simply outstanding, both of my daughters had Mrs. White as their Kindergarten teacher and she is wonderful, caring and is sincerley concerned about her students. Mrs. Collins is a great 1st grade teacher as well as Mrs. Olivere, which my daughters had both as teachers. Mrs. Downing (2nd Grade) is the sweetest woman you will ever meet. Principal Carlisle is always active and you will always seeing him roaming the halls talking to students or parents, or directing traffic before and after school. The parental involvement at this school is tremendous and the office staff is very freindly and accomodating to any requests from parents. I hate that I have to take my daughters (1st and 2nd graders) away from such a wonderful school. Bruce

I went to Riverdale all 9 years. At the begining it was fun, but once you get into middle school being in a k-8 school its hard to seperate the two. The middle schoolers get treated way younger than thier age. The teachers I had there were wonderful! They taught me so much! Its just the disciplineing that needs working on.

We relocated to Germantown from outside of the state of Tennessee in the summer of 2006. My son attended the second best rated elementary school in the state we lived in. My children went to Riverdale and I switched them to a private school after 1-1/2 years. The school does the best that it can, but with more than 1000 students, there is a lot that can't be done. Their teachers were fine, and the principal really seemed to care. I do think Riverdale is better than most public schools in the area, but I think in order to be competitive, Germantown needs to suceed from Shelby Co and have their own school system. Maybe then, kids would get the individual attention they deserve. Right now, they just dont' get it.

I think Riverdale is one of the best county schools. My son started Riverdale in 5th grade there. He came from a Catholic private school. And, he has learned just as much at Riverdale. I was worried but everything about the school is just great. The principle and teachers are just wonderful and care very much and are willing to work with our children and the parents to help them do well as children and to grow into wonderful adults. To me I trust my child there and don't worry about his well being. I would tell and have told people about Riverdale and hopefully they continue to do so. Thank you all at Riverdale.

My husband attended Riverdale and now our first two children are attending. It was a great school 30 years ago and is a great school now! The entire staff, from the pricncipal down to the kitchen workers, love the kids and treat them with respect. It must be very difficult to know each child by name when there are 1000! This school, both parents and faculty, are comitted to not letting budget cuts affect the quality of the education. We are lucky to have art, music, PE, as well as a great library- all things other schools are losing. Way to go, Riverdale!

We transferred from Virginia Beach, VA and our children attended this school, one in GR 8 and one in GR 4. This is a school with a small town feel. The teachers really care about their students. Middle school after school activities are lacking compared to most middle schools (only team sport is basketball) but the dedication of the staff is wonderful. AR reading program is highly stressed. Reading is still a subject through Eighth grade. Excellent parental involvement. School is trying to get Apple laptops for all 4th graders to improve computer skills.

After attending my 9 years at Riverdale as a student, I started realizing how beneficial the teachings were to my current, responsible, new life. Every teacher is 100% professional, yet interesting & creative in their own way, allowing for a more enjoyable & eager to learn class of pupils. I know from experience that the safe atmosphere, frequent teacher to student interaction, knowledgable teachers & fun programs such as talent shows, assemblies, etc. all contributed to who I am now and the perspectives and morals I preach/act. Everyday I drive past this school on the way to my home and wish to rewind my life back to my childhood. I would be much more appreciative;as I'd be aware of the fact that not all schools are so lucky! What an advantage I had moving to Rdale's district!

With over 1,000 students, this is still a small town school. The sdministrators know each child by name. Teachers and parents make this school. Teachers excell in their teaching methods, attitude towards the students and compassion for learning. I've had at least one child at this school for the past 8 years and now are sending my other two. This is my daughter's third year at riverdale. She is in the 6th grade and has been to two other elementary schools previously. We love riverdale. The teachers are wonderful. The principal is, by far, the best I've seen. And the atmosphere for learning is excellent. My only complaint is that there aren't more sports-related extracurricular activities. Really this isn't the school's fault but more the fault of the school system and how their money is budgeted. My 2nd child will start kindergarten next year and we can't wait to see her mind expand from the educational experience at riverdale.
