I graduated in the top third of my class at Gleason. I went to college and was very well prepared for the academics there. I have since lived in large cities but chose to move back here to raise our children in a small town atmosphere. Granted there are pros/cons to living in such a small community. However, small-town life is what you make of it as is attending a small school. We encourage our children to attend college out of state and 'see the world' but if they end up back here, I will be fine with that too. I don't think the quality of education is in question at Gleason (our children consistently lead TCAP scores in the county and state.) I think it is the level of involvement a child & parent choose to undertake.
A very close-knit society, where it is easier to succeed if your name is right or your parent is a teacher. Caring about all the children enrolled in the school is not a priority of this school. No Child Left Behind missed this school somehow. Ms. Paula Butler stated that 'TCAP doesn't matter or prove anything,' but then denied the statement and tried to use a TCAP score as a justification for denying my child's rights as a student with a disability.
Gleason School in no way prepares students for a future that is anything above mediocre.
I really hate to say this but Gleason School has a long way to go as far as meeting academic needs they are more interested in who can play the 'Best' basketball or any kind of sports of that matter. my children go to school there and I have been really disappointed in the way the school as a whole handles not only academics but punishment as well. I guess you can say I also graduated from a small town, but now that I have experienced what a 'Real Education' is worth consolidation may just be the answer. It's sad to know that when your kids attend a school such as Gleason the opportunities they are missing for a better education for their future is standing in their way. Thank you, A concerned parent
