This school has no diversity. Anyone who tries to introduce new ideas into the student body is immediately singled out and if you don't conform to their preconceived ideas you will have a terrible experience.
Greenback School has a very laid back approach to achieve academic excellence. The student curriculum is extremely out dated and lazy. Teachers are particularly prone to adhering to favorites, especially when the student is an athlete. The school does not promote creativity or diversity, the ratio of prepared and accepted graduates for a university is at an alarming high.
I was part of the Greenback faculty from 2000 - 2008 and was proud to be identified with Greenback School. I retired in 2008 but still substitute at the school because I miss the students, teachers and staff. I taught in 3 different school before coming to GBS and I never found any of them to be as caring, resourceful, or dedicated as the Greenback faculty and staff. There are definite problems with the building but the faculty have not let them hinder teaching the students. They will go out of their way to help a student in whatever their needs are. The students at GBS are not just a number but are people who need to be taught and listened to. I am glad to be a part of the GBS family and hope that the county will soon begin to build a new school now!!!!
The teachers, and administration are very caring and it is evident that they take personal ownership in the students at Greenback. I really love the small town ethics that are still present in the school and Mr. Breedlove and Ms. Guillemet are wonderful to work with and provide great leadership to the teachers and community. I wouldnt want to send my child anywhere else
Greenback is a great school, the new principal Joey Breedlove is very astute and caring. The school does need some construction upgrades, im not sure that it even meets the fire codes now!, but dont let those issues take away from the wonderful staff and students that call this learning institution home. They normally have great football teams too!!
This school has a great atmosphere and is very colorful and a happy place but the conditions of the school building itself is very poor!! They need a new school.
I was blessed to able to attend Greenback and it's ashame the lack of support the school gets from the county today. It's such a unique school and close knit environment that it would be ashame for people to let that disappear.
This school is great! I am a 8th grader there and think that the people and the surroundings are great! Its a small school which is great cause it makes you feel safer. The school building might not be in the best shape but have done what we can. The school spirit is great too.
I currently attend Greenback School and I am a junior. I moved to this school when I was in the 8th grade. I think Greenback is a wonderful school. It's not crowded like other school and the students all get along. True, there are some cliques. The cliques are not major at all because everyone has to interact with everyone because it is such a small school. I am very pleased with the school and all they have done for me.
My child has gone to Greenback since Kindergarden. I hate the fact that lunch starts 10:00 in the morning. That is the only way they can get all of the kids through the lunch line because the school is K-12. It is ridiculous! They need to get with the times and seperate the elementary from the high school. I do not agree with some of the teaching ethics. They tell you that your child does not do well, but they don't want to take the time to disipline(or make sure that they are doing the work in class). I do not think the school has been checked for mold or anything else because I believe if it had, it would be shut down. B.B.
Greenback provides a quality learning environment while also providing individual attention to give every kid an even chance. Kids are expected to work hard and take advantage of those chances, and it shows. Just compare the standardized test scores to the rest of the schools in the county if you want proof. Parent involvement is welcomed. Faculty and staff are caring and accessible. I'm overjoyed they still require respectful attitudes and if that means a strict dress code & threat of a paddle, then I'm all for it. When Greenback students leave an event or field trip, I consistently hear comments about how well-behaved and polite they are. Greenback may not have all the amenities that larger schools have, but the educational atmosphere is superior to large, crowded, rowdy classrooms in bigger schools. I personally feel that my son is blessed to have attended Greenback School. I will never forget the first day that I visited and saw the interaction between students of several ages. I really would not have believed that a school of this caliber would have such success unless I had seen it myself! The education, community spirt, students and staff of Greenback honestly care about other people. The teachers at this school are not only competent, but most have post-graduate degrees. They spend their own time and money tutoring children, sponsoring clubs, helping families, and giving support at academic and athletic events. I wish that I could somehow adequately thank each individual who works in that school and has helped mold my son into the young man that he is. I feel that he is more than equipped to handle the world.
I just recently graduated from Greenback and i couldn't have been a luckier student to have attended such a unique school. when i've come across other students or parents who don't like the school, it's not been because of the school, it's just them. it's rare to come across a k-12 anymore and greenback is one of the best. yeah it's old and there were some teachers i didn't like, but i wouldn't have changed it for the world!!! i see nothing wrong with the dress code and apparently if Greenback still has to paddle some students then they probably deserved it. honestly, most of the students would rather be paddle than suspended. i agree extracurricular activities could be better , but they are working on it. teachers are very involved in many aspects of students' lives, inside and outside of school.
Greenback was the worst school my children have attended! We moved because of it. The teachers are horrible and mean to the children! All they care about there is sports . I wouldnt reccomend it to anyone that loves their children and cares about their childrens self esteem.
I graduated from Greenback High School.I believe that I could not have recieved a better education anywhere. It is as strong disciplinary as it is in the classwork. It also has an attribute that few schools have now,a sense of community.I am not saying it is perfect, there is not one that is.I am disheartened at the fact people knock it for still using the paddle. It used to be in the 1990's(when I was in grade school),that if you required discipline at school it was twice fold at home.If you expect your children to learn they must pay attention,as well as respect the person teaching.Greenback is a great school with much more to offer than just a diploma.School anywhere is as good as the PARENTS interest, and respect in what a child is learning.I would have had it no other way. #68, Class of '99.
I think over all, Greenback school is a good place for kids to go to school. I go to Greenback and I love it. I dont know if im going to go their next year because of the teaching though. the things the school needs to work on is the mold, space, and it needs more teachers. Teachers that listen and pay attention to the children, and not just give all the orders.
I have two children that attended Greenback School. They are 15 and 7. To be honest I could not have picked a worse school. The dress code is too stict and the paddling? Come on, this is 2004 not 1804. We do not paddle our children any more. I do not believe in the way that Greenback teaches and the way it punishes its students. If you want your child to get a great education, then send them to a public school or to Maryville City Schools. Now that is an education. All they care about is their sports teams which arent all that great either. I really do not believe in that. School work and teachings should come before sports.
I am a parent with three children at Greenback, I have experienced Maryville City, Alcoa Elm, and Seymour Intermediate. I refuse to let my children enter back into Blount County Schools. My children are doing so well at Greenback I couldn't be happier. The older children work with the younger children and the teachers are like family..no politics! It's all about our children. It's like going back to when children had respect for God, Parents, Teachers, and others. I have a total of five children, 17, 16, 11, 9, 8. My oldest boys go to Heritage and I so wish they would transfer to a place where being hateful, and disrespectiful is not Kool, and being at school you were someone not just a payday for the school system. God willing my youngest three with graduate from Greenback with the morals, values, and education that is so very important.
