Laurel was a perfect fit for my child who will finish school there. Too bad that the neocon mindset of this area discourages this type of school. Coupled with the corporate model mindset in the education world at this time, throwing the students under the bus (aka NCLB) seems to be the national pasttime of politicians and "educational experts". The quality of instruction and the learning curve of the students was superb. I have seen many types of students be successful using many different types of structure in my decades long experience in education. Laurel met the needs of many of these students.

You wouldn't put a student with a standard IQ of 100 into a special education class where all the students' IQ are around 60. So why do schools pretend it is okay to place a student with an IQ of 140 into a class where the other students' IQ are 100? Laurel High School is a great school for parents with special students, students that are bored from the curriculum at others school. Some students learn differently and at a faster pace than others. Laurel High School has students that just don't fit into the normal school. No matter their strengths or weaknesses, these students have highly capable instructors to help them develop the necessary academic skills to continue their studies in post-secondary schools or to enter the workforce. As a parent of such a child, I recommend Laurel High School.

Very unstructured and chaotic. Free thinking environment, but not an acedemic focused.
