I have not had personal experience with this issue, but have talked with other parents who have had positive experiences. For instance, a child with OCD was allowed special items to "play with" in the classroom to help pay attention and keep distraction to a minimum.
I find the small town atmosphere to be refreshing. In an area where the elementary schools have 800+ students, it's nice to get to know the families of kids your children are playing with every day. The teachers are great and go out of their way to help struggling children (both of mine have been tutored as needed) and address any issues that come up in the classroom.
This school is absolutely amazing! The tagline is Faith, Academics & Service and it shows! SJNCS students take the ACRE test (religious education assessment) by the National Catholic Education Association each year. Results from the 2015/2016 ACRE test show that SJNCS 8th grade students that performed at the advanced level of Catholic faith knowledge was 23% higher than the national average. ACADEMICS - 2015/2016 8th grade results for the Knoxville Catholic High School Placement Test show that SJNCS students scored higher in each subject area (language, math & reading) than all Knoxville area students that took the KCHS entrance exam. SJNCS students also take the standardized ITBS exams each year of which the 2015/2016 results show that SJNCS achievement was better than 96% of all other schools that took the test nationally! SERVICE - students participate in monthly service projects in addition to middle school service hours and other special fundraisers. Additionally, the majority of KCHS students who are asked to serve as student ambassadors are graduates of SJNCS. Still unsure about this school? Call to schedule a tour and see for yourself! There's no better place for my child to be!
St. John Neumann Catholic School is a very welcoming environment. The students are happy, cared for, and well educated. There are lots of extra-curricular options with sports, art, and music. The kids are very involved providing great holistic education.
Walking down the halls, smiling children who are actively engaged with their peers and teachers will be found. The environment is calm and happy. The positive culture is even evident by watching the custodians who proudly keep the school clean. The faculty do a great job teaching Catholicism and this is apparent in the behaviors of the children and the high scores on the NCEA assessment of Catholic knowledge.
The teachers are all wonderful, but Sister Angela really stands out. There is nobody that will better care for the children, while still teaching literacy and religion. The children run to her when they see her. My own kid even ran to her trying to give a tackling hug in the middle of Mass (he is still learning).
The education is superb as the students scored in the top 96% on the national Iowa tests. Also, the school scored highest in entrance exams for Knoxville Catholic School. Beyond testing, the children have a love for learning. The teachers will build inquiry into the lessons to engage the children.
There are several private school options in the West Knoxville and Farragut area, but none compare to St. John Neumann. Students are provided the best education while learning the values and ethics that come with a Christian and Catholic education. It is a pleasure to see the happy children with a love of learning who are cared for and educated so well by the faculty and staff.
