I have found some outragous acts going on at this school. If your child talks in the morning breakfast time they will be told to go dump their trays and to go to class!!! I have had a teacher snatch a pencil out of my sons hand just because he was doodleing at the bottom of his page when he finished his work. I immediately removed him from this class. I have seen my children denied the right to go to the nurses office when sick because the teacher decided that in her opinion they were ok. I had to call about that. My children have been refused the right to go to the bathroom, due to the class being in a group punishment,The list goes on and on. The administration there has done everything in there power to cover up things that go on. There are some terrible teachers and people at this school. But among these are also some wonderfull ones!!! But very few. I will be removing all of my chiildren from this school in the very near future due to many serious problems at this school. Some of these teachers do not deserve the privelige of being around innocent and wonderful children!!
Maybe not the best physical building, but you will not find a warmer, more loving school. Our staff comes to school everyday ready to serve the children and families of ABES with respect and kindness. Our hallways and classrooms are full of smiles, laughter, and learning. Children are celebrated here--from the biggest accomplishments to the all important baby steps. I am proud to be an ABES teacher, and I cannot imagine working anywhere else.
It seems the majority of these 5 reviews have come from parents who have never even had their kids in another school. How can anyone say it's the 'Best of the Best' if they know nothing else? *headscratch* It would be more interesting and less biased to hear from parents who have had experiences in other schools. There are tons of improvements to be made. Some have already come, but there would be many, many more needed to call this school even close. Parents aren't even allowed to volunteer with a smaller child in tow! Seriously?! Alienating those who would be most likely, willing and able to volunteer is dumb! (I heard this from KD in a meeting at the beginning of the yr!) The post from the mom on 9/17 is spot on in my opinion, but I'm giving it 3 stars bc of the great teachers.
Adrian Burnett is the Best of the Best. The principal and staff are incredible. They are dedicated to each student and have their best interest as the #1 priority. I'm sure Halls Middle will be a great school but I'm sad that this is our last year at ABES. With this being the only school my son has attended, the middle and high school have some big shoes to fill.
This is the second year for my daughter at Adrian Burnett, Last year in Kindergarten she had Mrs. McComas and this year in first grade, she has Mrs. Butler. Both teachers are very dedicated to their students education. We love the school so much that we plan to keep our daughter there through 5th grade despite us desperately needed a bigger home. . To all of the teachers at Adrian Burnett...we apppreciate everything you do for our children. THANKS A MILLION!
I've been less than thrilled with the administration over the last 3yrs. The standardized test scores are the gold standard and teaching to the test is the main agenda. Unfortunately, even those educators who don't necessarily subscribe to this way of thinking have had their hands tied. The general consensus is that the administrators are not there for the children as advocates, but instead are unfriendly, unapproachable dictators. There are a handful of teachers who don't seem to respect the children and are frequently very short with them. The facilities are sorely lacking and the school system has continued to push this school to the back-burner; more than 10 years of empty promises. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is b/c there are a handful of great teachers amongst this mess of a school. This is the sad but true reality- Signed, Disappointed Mama of 4
I have 5 boys. 4 of the 5 has went to this school 3 have gone on to middle then 2 in high. I wish the middle and high school was as good as this one it would make my kids love school untill they were out. The Best School Ever.
I currently work at Adrian Burnett and I must say, it truly is a great school. I know I am a little biased, but when I started working here, the entire faculty made me feel like I was home. I have also witnessed many accounts of teachers displaying great concern and love for their students. I have been in many schools and I believe Adrian Burnett to have one the most kind, dedicated, and appreciative staff I have ever seen. Not only is it an amazing place to learn, it is also a great place to work.
My son has attended the school for 2 years now and we love it. He has been fortunate to have the same teacher 2 years in a row. I just love Mrs. Hunt. She is a blessed addition to the Adrian Burnett family and now ours. I help out every time I can and am excited to see her love for her students. I am very pleased with all of the faculty. They are very helpful. Unfortunately we may move and I will truely miss the school and faculty.
This is a wonderful school with wonderful teachers. I have been very pleased with my experience thus far at this school, especially with the teacher's asst. Ellen Dean. She is an angel.
