Moved into this county a few years ago...My son at the time was on the honor roll at his other school in East TN. His grades have dropped and his outlook as well...I find that the schools here are more concerned about what the students are wearing than what knowledge they need for their future...my son's self esteem has been knocked down several times by staff members...and I find it disgusting...if the school system would take a step back or should i say out of their close minded box maybe they could see things in a diff. light..
I think the teachers at MCJH are great. The 6th grade teachers were especially helpful in helping her to transition from elementary to junior high. I think the curriculum has challenged her academically, and the school offers as many opportunities for extracurricular activities as a small school can afford.
It has been my experience that the teachers who know you are concerned about your child will respond. I think Mr. and Mrs. Waldron are to be mentioned by name. They give 100% effort everyone toward learning. I feel if parents could choose the teachers for their child it would be crystal clear who the teachers are that need to be terminated. The only issues I see as a problem in the school has been solved with resignation of a coaching position and hopefully termination after this school year. I feel the extracurricular activities offered to the students are numerious.
i think we need teachers that want to teach our children and that care about them i went to a board meeting 1-13-2005 who are they for our children or a check i hope it get better for our children but first we need good leaders.
I totaly agree with other reviews the dress code is a big issue so why no go to uniforms? There is no parent teacher involment unless you are related or wealthy. its as if there not giving the children who live in poverty a chance at a good education and they are also singled out and considered the poor kids. My child is smart and deserves a good education no matter what income his family has. My child was also told by his teachers after I wrote to them concerned about his low grades that there was no problem and that I shouldnt be worried because he was passing with c's so he thinks now that as long as hes not making an f its ok to settle for c's but I also know that a c will not get him into a good college or a scholarship.
This school lacks teachers who really want to teach. The kids are yelled at and degraded quite often. Corporal punishment is a threat dished out more often than not. The dress code is a bigger issue than the quality of education the students are getting. The curriculum is basic and the teachers don't put any imagination into teaching the lessons. The children are not groomed for college here. The kids are in and out of 'in school suspension' for trivial things. Summer school is used as a crutch for bad students. Lessons are much easier there and they are passed onto the next grade. My boys are both good students, but since I have moved them away from Macon county schools they have not only become better students-but have learned a variety of things to help complete thier education. Something they would have not receieved there.
Pretty good school in my opinion. There does seem to be a very large intrest in the sports area while music and art seem to lack. Always alot of staff members at the sports games, hardly ever at band/choir concerts. I'm sure there is a very real and true reason for this. (no sarcasm intended) I had fun while I was there.
I find that this school lowers self esteem. Cares more about how to knock down students than promote emotional growth. My daughter had her finger broke in P.E. I did not get a call from the school nurse. She was sent back to class. Let them wear the wrong logo on a shirt and you would think a crime had been commited. They use a thing called BI for discipline like it was candy. Rules are used for kids staff do not like and the ones in favor get away with murder. I think with the exception of the good teachers who do try, the rest ought to be fired. Corruption is rapant. Absentee records are changed by the staff if they like the student. Do an audit and match doctor slips to excused and you will find they do not match. Corruption at it's finest here & now.
