the principal is not good, he insults his staff and is two faced. The school is on a downward path.

LHS has made lots of positive changes in the last few years, and as an alumnus, this is a great thing to see. Classes are tough, teachers are strict, and school spirit is evident in our city. Leadership at the school could be better, but overall, the strength of the teachers and their willingness to work with students carries LHS through. I would recommend it to anyone for their child.

L.H.S is a growing school that has a lot of skilled teachers. It has really improved in the last 3 or 4 years, and is working to get even better with the redesign grant they have. My daughter loves her teachers, feels at home at school, and seems to be challenged without being swamped with busy work. Great job L.H.S!

As a parent of a recent graduate I was pleased with the opportunities afforded my child while attending LHS. As a college freshman she is able to compete and excell in her classes at UT. As student of the dual enrollment program, she has already completed her college math requirements. There is always room for improvement in any school but I believe that the opportunity for a quality education is certainly available at Lexington High School.

As a UT graduate I will have to say that Lexington needs to step up its game. I excelled in advance courses while in high school there, but still had to take developmental classes when I went to Jackson State Community College. I did graduate both JSCC and UT with great scores, but because of my high school education I started out in college far behind most students. I hope parents will push the high school to be more successful, and therefore produce more successful students. Good Luck LHS!!!!

Lexington High School is way below average. About 1/3 the teachers at LHS don't actually teach. They are out of the room most of the time, or they give you busy work that has no substance for your education. One day I had to go to the room next door to tell them to turn their music down and quit yelling because I was trying to take a test. In four other classes I've taken, the teacher was out of the room almost everyday. LHS is launching 'Freshman Academy'. That means they're not letting freshmen interact with other grades, which is ignorant because it just makes them feel like the new kid longer. The honors program is quite wonderful. It's challenging and education-fortified. Mrs. Savage and Mrs. Cooper are my personal favorites. Basically, LHS is not where you want to send your child unless they plan on taking all honors courses.

I do not think there is enough challenge for students. Dropping the lowest grade or allowing makeup work should not be allowed in the upper grades. The band is small, where is the music at this school. Getting credit for sports but not music is wrong.

I am a member of the class of 2009, and I am also one of the mascots at LHS. I would have to say I disagree with those who think you can't get an education at LHS. Those who believe they aren't being taught correctly or challenged enough should step there game up. We have an amazing honors program (I should know I have been in it for 2 years). The teachers who don't know what they are teaching will not be back next year. I believe LHS is stepping it up. Have you ever stopped to think that it isn't the teachers fault you are not getting good grades. I also think people shouldn't worry about safety at LHS (It was my main concern when I was coming in as a freshman). Now, the only things we are ever scared about are rumors (they're just a fact of life).

I am a junior (2008) student here at LHS and I would like to give you an inside view of our school. We have some amazing teachers here but they are few and far between. I have had a great time here but there are times when I feel like I am teaching myself. I do not recommend sending your child here if you are severely concerned with their education and their safety.

The only positive thing about this high school is they do have some very good teachers. Otherwise, it is a good idea to keep a file of copies or notes for all communications on hand, because you most likely will need it at a later time.

The August 2003 was written in a time of transition at LHS. I have two sons at LHS a Senior (2007) and a sophmore (2009). Our experiance has been very positive. Anyone with more than one child knows that no two children are alike. Each child has had different educational needs and different extracurricula expectations. Both of our sons have been fulfilled and have scored well above average on state mandated tests. I appreciate the leadership of the administration and the love and compassion shown by their teachers. Bravo LHS. Keep up the good work.

I'm not a parent, I'm an alumni. My father's an alumni, also, and in the thirty year discrepancy between his graduation and mine, we both agree that this school is both unappreciative of its students and unworthy of its teachers. There is no post-secondary realism in the curricula (thanks to the overzealous and morally unable administration), and the place is more of a prison of conformity than an institution of the celebration, understanding, and acceptance of the gifted, mature student body it boasts. This is a place where, unfortunately for the students and the educated yet ignored instructor, the sword has become mightier than the pen. And where the pen will soon be rendered archaic and obsolete.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 Tennessee used the Gateway/End-of-Course (EOC) exams to test high school students in language arts, math, science, and social studies upon completion of relevant courses. Students must pass the algebra I, English II, and biology I tests, called the Gateway exams, in order to graduate. The Gateway/EOC exams are standards-based tests that measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Tennessee. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

About the tests
