I moved to DeKalb County when I was in the 3rd grade. I went to the West School and now my daughter is there. Yes I agree that it could be better. But all in all, it is a wonderful school with teachers who care about the children. Yes, larger districts and areas may have more extracuriculars to offer the younger students, but they can't offer the personal attention and atmosphere that is at DeKalb West. I too have had issues with the school, both as a student and as a parent. But, that will happen everywhere. I wouldn't want my daughter in any other school.
Dekalb West is a wonderful school. My child started school this school year and they have been wonderful to her. She has learned so much and I am looking foward to the years to come!! The teachers and the principal are wonderful people who care about the childrens education.
Dekalb West is one of the worst schools that I have ever seen. The principal is extremely rude and unhelpful unless you are of the 'chosen few' parents that have clout. With the exception of basketball and cheerleading there is no other sports for the children to participate in. Not to mention that physical education and recess is taken away from these kids if the teachers feel the students need additional study time. Bullying seems to be a big problem as well. To get parents involved is worse than pulling teeth. However that is what it is going to take to turn this sad little school around (and a complete overhaul of staffing. I have to say if my child had any alternative I would jump on it, but since I can't even find a private school within the area we must suffer with a second rate education.
Dekalb West is an awesome school. I have 2 children attending and both are receiving an excellant education. Teachers and staff care about the kids.
I feel that DeKalb West School is a bad school to send children to right now. Teacher moral is at a low point and the actions of the principal are very unprofessional toward parents, teachers, and students. He along with a couple of teachers need to retire! There is a tremendous amount of catering to parents that are 'somebody' or that the principal is scared to make mad. For this school to get back on the right path to educating children properly, major changes need to be made!
This is an outstanding school from kindergarden through 8th grade. Both of our children were very successful in achieving the foundation the needed to be successful in high school. The principal as well as the teachers are a very loving and caring group of individuals that take their calling to make a difference very serious. If you are looking for a good school Dekalb West is for you.
