I have two children at or have been at East Knox. I have in all the years of being around the school always felt the administration and the faculty taught, looked after, and loved my kids. The school has a safe environment.
The school administration is so unfriendly. You have a few teachers that engage with parents but it is amazing how unfriendly the staff can be at the school. The janitor's are very friendly.
The principal has terrible social skills. She is rarely seen in the school. There is a lack of professionalism when it comes to leadership. The school has some excellent teachers as well as terrible teachers. Parental involvement is encouraged but often unwanted.
This will be my son's 4th year at East Knox County Elementary School. He absolutely loves this school as well as do I. Our son has excelled in his learning and is at the top of his class. We feel this is due to a partnership of great leadership at school and follow-up teaching and practices at home by us, the parents. We have become part of the school family in that we are involved in and participate in many school activities. We are always made to feel welcome at the school and feel that Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Smith, as well as all the teachers, have our son's best interest at heart. We applaud all the teachers and know that our son is in good hands while at school. Sincerely, A very involvedand satisfied Mom
I do not feel the GreatSchools score does this school justice. The Principal, Kay Dawson, and her staff have done a great job in improving both the quality of education and the quality of the physical structure since her arrival. She and her staff are very approachable and care deeply about the students. There is always an exception or two, but the vast majority of the teachers are well-qualified and work hard to impart knowledge to the students. The parents who are involved are passionate. One only has to spend some time at the school to hear and see the quality.
I feel this school has a lot to offer kids. The teachers are always willing to help, and parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged.
This has been a good year for East Knox. We've had two new administrators this year and I like the changes they've attempted to make. Students have not always been the first consideration at this school but it appears things are changing. There is now an open door policy, the school appearance has been upgraded so I think we're on our way to a better school. The new pricipals expect the teachers to work hard, stay in touch with parents and won't put up with those who are not getting the job done. I just hope the entire faculty and other parents will get on board and be supportive and focus on what's best for the children.
