My first impression of this school is less then great. The Ms. Jones is an *ss and her office staff is rude and unprofessional. I'm not impressed what so ever. I can't understand how they have 3 plus rating.

I agree with some of the other parents ms. jones seem to be a very distance principal. I don't like that at all.

I have no problems with the school in general. My child has attended since kindergarten and is going to the third grade this year. I have noticed the leadership at the school is not in the best interest of the parent. The current leader has been there since the school's exsistance and hasn't and does not adapt to change. Her attitude toward the kids and parent is always lack luster. My husband and I are very involved parents and we support our child 100% in any school function. The only issue we have is the current leadership and no special programs for the more advance students. When Ms. Jones retires I think the school can be re-born again and grow further. My daughter has attened this school since kindergarten. My son also attended for five years. For the most part, it is a good school. The teachers will try to resolve issues if you bring them to their attention. The community around this school has changed a lot in the past 9 years that we have lived here. My daughter has two more years before she goes to middle school. I hope the school continues to perform well.

Southwind at this time needs improvement in dealing with how kids tease one another. My child attended another Shelby County school for a couple of years due to parents moving but when we returned, he returned to Southwind. Even he notices the difference in kids and how they tease and the teachers do nothing. Not sure if they don't care of it they just aren't paying attention. The work load is very elementary also compared to his other school. He had a terrible previous year but this year because the curriculum is sooo slow, he can keep up (that's one good thing). Since being there, the principal hasn't been visible in the car rider line and it's going on 3 months! She was at the school when he first attended and things haven't changed; she's still very distant!--not good; puts off a very 'not interested' attitude.

Southwind Elementary is by far one of the best schools in Shelby County. The Principal does an amazing job with the low budget she is given. Her administrative skills are impeccable and the teachers are all very well educated, caring, and nurturing. Extracurricular activities such as S.O.L.V.E. and S.O.S.A. keep the kids motivated and involved. The only shortfall I can say is the complete lack of parental involvement. Unfortunately the majority of elementary aged children in the county do not have parents with the initiative to support their children and the teachers they spend their days with. School is not just a free babysitter, it is an opportunity to help your child grow and mold them into the next generation.

SWE is a great school with the best teachers of all kind. I really like everything about this school except the principal. God bless all of SWE teachers. They are great. This is an excellent school, with the best teachers, academic programs, parent involvement, and etc. I would nominate SWE best county school if they had a better principal.

Southwind has been a wonderful experience thus far to both my children. I believe parents should not generalize about the degree of concern that all of the teachers may exhibit when they have not personally dealt with all of Southwind's teachers. This school has built an excellent foundation of learning for my children. I highly recommend to any parent seeking the same for their child(ren).

I do not like this school and would not recommend it to any parent. I have only had one teacher that I felt cared about my child. The school says it encourages parental involvement, but its not true. The staff sometimes seems inadequate at times and the principal does not interact with the students from what I've seen.

My children use to go here. They have a no taddle tail rule. Both my children tried to tell the teachers they were being picked on. My kids were told no talking and no taddle tailing. My daughter said ok and ended up getting suspended for fighting. The school said she should have told a teacher.

This school was wonderful under the prior principal. This is not true with the current one. Most (not all) of the teachers are good. The ones I spoke with were not happy working with the principal. Some teachers cannot control their classes. The kids in those classes are out of control. Those in leadership rolls do not do enough to help these teachers. The principal avoids parents. I know this is true because I have experienced it myself. The best thing they could do for this school is get rid of that principal.

Great school with advanced (when funded, which is currently threatened) and special ed class. The Principal is a bit distant but teachers are very attentive to childern. I have both a disciplined gifted child and a discipline problem gifted child so I have seen both sides. But remember the teacher need your help to succeed. Expect moderate amounts of homework. Southwind is currently a county school, but I believe it is in a city Annex, either Memphis (very bad) or Germantown (excellent). The problem here is the government keeps cutting funding in preference for mutli-million dollar sporting arenas, which seem to mean more than our childern's education, all in hope of getting professional sports teams that the Shelby's populace won't support. Future educational funding is currently in danger.

Overall teachers do care. Principal gives a impression of being distant, don't know if she means to. I feel my children are geting a good education and are in a safe enviroment.

My child went there for 3 years and I was not too please with the teachers. Didn't seem to care. They were there for a paycheck, not for the children.

Excellent faculty and facility. Principle appears to be a good leader, but should communicate with parents adequately.
