I have always loved St. Louis, now I love it even more. Our new principal has brought in tangible improvements and there is a new energy among the teachers. My children are happy to go to school, and yes they are challenged academically. There is opportunity for everyone. The word that comes to mind most is "community." We have an outstanding church, pastor, principal, teachers and families that cares for each other in all kinds of ways. I feel so blessed to be a part of this wonderful community.

The school and church preach catholic values which are not followed by the majority of the parents . . . The parents are not friendly at all to new families, and their children are equally mean and narrow minded. The school is really inbred. If you want a school with a bunch of self centered parents whose children are over indulged, then come here. Oh, they have a good sports team--hopefully your child will be able to navigate the politics and get to play. . . . . .

St. Louis is a fantastic Catholic School, led by a great new principal, and a wonderful caring pastor. With the addition of new technology, laptops for teachers and students, and projectors in the classroom St. Louis stays at the forefront as a leader in elementary education in Memphis. The families and their involvement create a excellent environment for children. We could not be happier with it as a school and foundation for our children.

Wonderful catholic environment coupled with outstanding leadership by our new principal, Teddi Niedzwiedz, and Monsignor McArthur. Mary Sellers is a great new addition to our Music program, as well as, Jenna Jauchler, in Spanish. Strong Christian values, wonderful parish school with active parent involvement and lots of new technology to encourage a better classroom experience for my children. I am quite happy with the staff and my children are challenged and have done quite well in school.

St. Louis is a great school, lead by a wonderful principal and church pastor. A new principal has brought a breath of freash air into the academic program - the best is yet to come. The foundations of the school and church are solid - Christ centered and an active engaged community of parents and students.

St. Louis is a terrific school with an incredible tradition in the Memphis area. However, a weak pastor caters to a relatively small group of elitist parents. I fear that rash changes brought on by the pastor may jeopardize the future of the school.

Not good food. The principal is a good person but should not be a principal. The Art program is horrible. students are VERY friendly and well behaved, good enviroment for children

St. Louis is not for everyone - if your child is an average student I would have to say - this is not the school for your child. St. Louis does not know how to teach average students - you will probably be asked to get your child 'tested' for a learning disability. The principal does not show true leadership and lets the faculty treat students and parents unfairly. Many alumni (myself included) are not referring friends or family to St. Louis.

An adequate school. This school is not for you if you are moving or new to the Memphis area. Most of the families have a long history together and are not friendly to 'outsiders'. It is basically the same buildings, teachers, leadership and philosophy from 50 years ago. However - a strong Catholic education with adequate academics. The principal is weak - families who donate funds and long time teachers run this school.

My child attends St. Louis, and it is ok for the lower grades, but the problem of teachers who have been there way too long is very serious. The administration ignores the problem. The classes are way too large too.

I loved attneding St. Louis School! I went there for 9 years (k-12) and I would not trade it for anything. I am a sophomore in college right now, and I still go back and visit my teachers and the day care. I plan on sending my kids to SLS.

Posted October 2, 2007

My child attends SLS and the classrooms are far too crowded (27 students) and some of the teachers have been there far too long for their own, as well as the children's, good. If I could make a recommendation, it would be to drop the class size to a more managable number and recruit younger, enthusiastic teachers.

Excellent school! Not only does my son attend the school, my entire family attended it as well. Fully prepares children for highschool. Wonderful Catholic ciriculum and modern incorporation of the faith in every day life.

I feel fortunate that my kids go to St. Louis School, where the teachers know and care about their students. St. Louis is a enthusiastic, upbeat environment, and parental involvement is excellent. The sports, scouting, and music programs are exemplary. The only weakness is its after-school program, which is not administered by the school.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
