Since being a parent at this school, I feel that parents are not informed enough of what's going on. There are no activities for children. The kids have to look forward to 'Quiet Mondays' at lunch.
Goodlett Elementary is still a great school but I have noticed that the atmosphere has changed since Dr. Walker retired. The morale of the teachers and students seem to have lowered this year and the new prinicpal is not involved with the students at all. She has never been available to speak to and I never see her in after school activities. The staff used to be so cheerful and always have smiles on their faces; this year they seem to just show up for work. The teachers and staff are obviously not as happy with the new principal and the activities are not as plentiful with the students as last year. Dr. Walker seemed to know every student by name and even though this is not expected of the new prinicpal, it would be bice to know what she looks like and be able to speak to her without hassle.
Goodlett is a great school. I have two children who currently attend class there and they love it. They are both recipiants of the savings bond and are honor students. Goodlett is a very warm and friendly school. The principal Mr.Walker is very involved with the students and parents. He strives for excellance and constantly reminds the students and staff that 'Goodlett is better than the rest we are the Best!'
My kids has attended Goodlett every since K,and I wouldn't send them any where else.They have plenty of good extracurricular activties for the kids.One of my sons graduated from the sixth grade last year and they acknowledge the kids so well that had honors throughout the sixth grade and one child from k to the sixth.They gave the kids over a thousand dollars in savings bond. I thought that was so wonderful for those kids. The principal Mr. Walker is a wonderful and understanding principal. Overall Godlett is better than the rest!
