info on optional schools

We'll probably be moving to Memphis in a few months, probably in the middle of the school year. I assumed we'd have to look outside the city to get a good public school but am getting excited the more I read about the Optional schools in Memphis City schools, particularly the Campus School at the University of Memphis. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into these either at the beginning or middle of the year? I have two very good students who test well but I realize that may only be part of the battle. I also plan on calling the school district but thought I'd check here for any parent info.

You may have better luck coming in mid year getting into them. I would suggest that you contact the school(s) of choice and speak with the onsite principal. The principal has the final say in if they take the students. You will need to fill the form out at the district office but after that you are pretty much dealing with the principal.
Snowden School in midtown is excellent as well and it is one of the few schools we have that are K-8.

Hello ftworthmom, My name is Marlon I may have some helpful info about the campus school in Memphis. I have a relative that has worked there for years. you may e-mail me at marlonehaynes@aol.com BTW when are you guys moving to Memphis? Based on your screenname I presume you are from Ft. Worth. I used to live in the metroplex years ago. I lived in Coppell after I left Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

Campus School does not admit mid year. In addition priority admission goes to faculty/professional admin of University if Memphis. Visit campusschool.org

Shelby County and Memphis City schools are currently in flux. City residents vote march 8 on referendum to surrender school charter. Visit commercialappeal.com to read up.

Thanks for your reply - we've actually already moved to Collierville. From what I understand, any changes will be at least 3 years away but I'll keep an eye on this.
