The school's IB and Honor Program is great. The teachers actually care about the students, and the program is a great opportunity for kids to excel. Unfortunately, the overall environment that these kids have to learn in is absolutely horrid. There are way too many kids that don't care about their school work, their school, their teachers, or themselves for that matter. Fights are a regular at HLHS. If you are in the Honor's Program at this school, great. If not, good luck.
I loved HLHS. We always had fun and we learned a lot. All of the teachers were Great. Band was AWESOME!!
I am A freshmen At HLHS on the school year of 2011/12! And our school is not that bad as lots of people say. It offers many programs like , The MYP/IB Program, AVID, ELL, virtual learning, and many more. I am in the Marching band, and MYP program. i love this school as well as many of you might like it!
I am a Freshmen here at HLHS in the 2011/2012 school year, and I am really enjoying this school. This school is awesome. I have made lots of friends in this school in only the first couple of weeks. I would recommend students to go here, its not only a fun school, but you can learn alot in this school in fun ways, that is what make our school so great...HLHS = The Cool School!!!
HLHS is an awesome school. My daughter is a 9th grader this 2010/11 school year. She entered HLHS at the last minute and didn't know anyone there. The first day she met several friends, the teachers were warm and friendly and the principals are very encouraging. My daughter is in the marching band and has become fast friends with the group of kids that are working hard to improve the #s on the band and the outlook that the community has about the school and the kids that attend HLHS. With the news media taking every chance they get to talk about the bad things happening at the local schools it is hard to know what is going on at the high schools that is good. Let me tell you, there is alot of good things going on at HLHS. We are looking forward to 3 more great years.
Hunters Lane has undergone a complete change in the past 2 years. The school is in good standing, discipline is under control, Principal Kesser brought back pep rallies, dances, and a single lunch for all students.
I loved the school. If it wasn't for this school I wouldn't have my head on strieght.
Everybody saying that HLHS is a bad school are not trying at all. Im a student and i love it here. If someone trys in the school, then its a wonderful place. but the people who are just there to see friends, the ones that cause all the bad rep, are the students who do nothing but talk act up and sleep.
Hunters Lane needs a lot of improvements. The rules have become too strict which makes the students feel more stressed. Students learn less because they are always being sent to the office because of a dress code violation. Also, teenagers tend to need more sleep than adults and for some reason their bodies are set to wanting to stay up late and arranging the time to go to school earlier is not going to help these students. Students cannot learn as nearly as well when they have not had enough sleep! The new principal(Kessler) at Hunters Lane seems like she will help fix a lot of these problems. My main concern is the new time. It is simply too early and students cannot learn as well.
Too many people, not enough space. Poor bathrooms(not nearly enough).
The only 'problem' with Hunters Lane is that it has too many students for it's compasity. -Jera c/o '04
I am an IB student at Hunters Lane. I am a Junior and have been a dedicated student ever since my freshman year. I participate in various activities in school because I am one of those students that are headed for college and would like to major in education in college and would like to see our school put back up where it was my freshman year. Notice that no parents are really involved in the school functions but they all have something negative to say about our school. Hunters Lane is a good school regardless of prior thoughts.
I dont know if anyone has visited hunters lane recently, but it has steadly rolled down hill since the good old days. After 2004 and the legendary last day, much has changed. The admin are no better. And extracurricular? Forget about anything good. Forensics, gone, didn't even know it existed. Peprallys? dont even happen anymore. That bon-fire thingy? 'cancled'.
It's ok. Not as bad as people say. The block schedule is very easy to get used to. Overall, Hunter's lane is a nice environmet depending on your image and choice of friends.
As a member of the Class of 2004, I would have to say that Hunters Lane is a good school. It has levels of learning for practically everyone, from special education to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, a JROTC program, a Culinary Arts program, and many different organizations to pique anyone's interest, including Forensics and FCA. The major problem is the fighting that happens -- and that is done by a small number of people who don't have the sense to solve their problems in a decent and orderly manner. That is the job of the parents, not the school. Hunters Lane will always be my alma mater, and I will always cherish the memories I made at Hunters Lane. The Madrigals are the best choir in the state! Go Warriors!
i'm a freshman at HLHS and i can say that this school is not as bad as people say.Yes,there are many fights but the officers are always there helping. The education is great! We have IB programs, culinary arts,JROTC,etc. I think HLHS is made to be worse than what it really is.
I graduated from HLHS in 2004 and I loved it. Yes, there were many fights, but that was just ignorant kids being ignorant.Fighting is going to happen at any school because there are so many sterotypes today. I feel that the principles ( Mr. Bell, Dr. Moore, Mrs. Grandberry, Mr. Johnson) as well as Officer Keeler and Officer Hanahan had things very under control. My senior year I was an office aide for Dr. Moore and I saw first hand what went on that students didn't know about and that is all it needs to be... between the proper authorities. I now work for Dr. Moore at a Metro school...so great things can be accomplished at HLHS.
When my child first went to HLHS it was nice and she loved it. Now it has changed i as a parent am at times scared of what might happen there. There are way to many kids and not enough teachers or adults. The childern do not resect the teacher and it takes away from the childern who are there to learn. I am glad this is my childs last year there, my son will not attend HLHS unless changes are made. There are some teacher who are helpfull thet just need more of them.
As a parent of a second year student at Hunters Lane I find the school has some good qualities and some areas which need immediate attention! First the good qualities; The IB program, extra curricular activities and over-all teacher performance are good. I find that certain principals have a tendency to avoid controversy rather than resolve the problem: i.e. a face to face meeting with parent/teachers who have a problem. Deflection of controversy does not end it. The other problems I see with the school is mass punishment for the actions of a few,(identify those responsible for problems and deal with them accordingly), departmental conflicts caused by an apparent good ole boy system(a leadership problem). The biggest problem with the school is apathy on the part of the parents. If it is'nt a sports activity you see very few parents at events. Parents support your kids, they're worth the effort!
