Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Shayne is a great school. Being new to the area we compared the scores, environment, etc to some magnet schools we were told to register our daughter for. It made no sense to have to go through the hassle when Shayne had what she needed and it works for us. The teachers and staff cares. The parental involvement is excellent.

I've had 3 children go through Shayne. We have had no bad experiences and all except one were fantastic. My son had an issue with another student and the principal quickly took care of the issue.

I am thrilled with the quality and caring at Shayne Elementary. I was very hesitant about having my son attend kindergarten here because I thought it wasn't "as good" as the Williamson Co. schools. But I have been so thrilled with the quality, diversity, structure and caring of the teachers and administrators. You can feel the love--in a very structured environment. My son feels confident and happy. On another note-- the diversity is amazing. While the kids all wear uniforms (solid collared shirts of any color) to help equalize the group, my (white) son's class has African Americans, Asians, Hispanics and Muslims all learning together. It is such a pleasure to see him learning about other cultures and customs in everyday life. I'm a fan!

This is our 4th year at Shayne and we couldn't be happier! As a mom of a child with learning differences, let me just say that the resource teachers and staff that work with my child are stellar! They really do look out for his best interest and genuinely care for him and our family. I consider our family blessed to be a part of this wonderful school with an excellent principal, staff and parents!

My son attended kindergarten at Shayne last year, and his experience at the school was awesome! His teacher was attentive and I could tell that she was genuinely vested in the success of her students. Great teachers make great school - so far 2 thumbs up.

I believe whole heartily that this is a great school. Is every teacher the best? No, but I know teachers in great schools that will say the same thing. None the less, there are so many great teachers. The staff there has always been nothing but wonderful. And my interactions with the principal and vice principal has been very positive. The PTA is involved in the school and does a great job of corresponding with parents. I believe there are some people that will only believe a great education can only be achieved either in a neighboring county or by private means. Shayne dispels that.

My 1st experience with a child in school and it has been wonderful! Great, caring teachers and staff. Awesome principle! A great experience all around, and I am SUPER picky, especially when it come to my child. This is a school I'd love to stick with. I felt invited to be a part of my child's learning and total school experience. Yes, overcrowded, but what can be done? Kids have to go somewhere.

I have been at Shayne since 2006 and I would highly disagree with the unhappy parent that just wrote a bad review. It is not Shayne's fault that they are overcrowded. Shayne is not in control of the zoning and if the personnel could change it, they would. I feel like the teachers and staff have handled their students very well. As far as teachers wanting out... I know all the teachers and I know that 99% for them are VERY happy with Shayne. Of course Green HIlls and Williamson county schools are less crowded, the parents have more money to support their schools. They also have bigger homes and better cars. Sounds to me like you are unhappy with your own life and that you may need to work on yourself instead of lashing out at a wonderful school. Maybe you should go to another Metro school in the area and look at their overcrowding and poverty problems and then you would appreciate where you are. Why don't you do something good with your anger and go to the board and try to change the zoning or go get a job and move.

This school is terrible. The test scores are below average and bad even for MNPS lousy standards. The school is WAY overcrowded which is unbelievable considering it was just built in 2004 and they expect another big jump in enrollment in 2012. The entire 3rd & 4th grades are housed outside in portables and 2nd is probably close behind. Meanwhile the public schools in the more affluent areas seem to be able to avoid expansion, overcrowding, and the introduction of portables, all while maintaining much higher test scores and hand picking the best teachers. Seems Green Hills tax dollars are worth more than Antioch tax dollars. The teachers at Shayne don t seem to be very caring and many of them seem to want out. If your child is zoned for Shayne move to Williamson. If you can t afford to move like most of us, sorry.

My sons have some health issues. It has been wonderful to have a nurse at the school most of the day and to have supportive teachers and staff. We actually transferred to Shayne from another public school. The communication between school and parent has been much better. They even offer additional special areas subjects- Spanish, for example. I used to be a teacher. Some of my former co-workers teach at Shayne now. They are happy to be there. I think this speaks highly for the school as well.

Shayne Elementary has some of the most highly qualified teachers in a public school setting. The staff model caring behavior and professionalism through word and good deeds. Shane is truly a school committed to developing skills that will guide children througout their life. The learning environment, staff support, and commitment from parents are just a few ingredients that make Shayne a school of excellence!

I have had a child at this school for four years. The Principal is clearly a very committed, quality professional. Her door is always open and she clearly has the respect of the teachers. The teachers overall are fair but a high number seem burned out - many before they ever transferred to this new school. We have had a couple really great teachers, but forthe most part the teachers seem just fair. The level at activities at the school is exceptional. The school sponsors family game nights, spaghetti dinner fundraisers and family math nights among other activities.

I have two children at Shayne and I think the school is wonderful. The teachers moved quickly to help my son with his speech problem and I have seen amazing progress. My daughters teachers have gone out of their way to keep her advanced. She helps other children that my need tutoring and is very proud of her accomplishments. All of the teachers that my son and daughter have worked with have been great. Shayne has also introduced the children to spanish, which seems to be essential in this day and age. I am proud to send my children to Shayne Elementary.

I was very disappointed with Shayne while my child attended there. I believe that since the principal came from an inter city school she was not used to having involved parents and did not know how to handle them. It seemed that the only way to keep control was to 'yell' at the students. Everyone barked at the kids. They did not have enough to challenge the kids that were doing well therefore they fell to the wayside. The children are not allowed to talk in the cafeteria above a whisper. The teachers were very capable but stifled. Loved the PE program. It is a shame it is a beautiful school outside but more of an inner city school mentality inside. My child said it best 'Mom, no one there ever smiles.'

My daughter has gone to Shayne for two years. She is in 2nd grade now. Her first grade teacher was great, but her teacher is horrible! The teacher does not allow them to have a best friends, they are required to be friends with everyone. My daughter has a best friend but is forced to lie about it for fear of getting in trouble. The teacher also reprimands the child even if it is not their fault. I have called and tried to get in touch with the teacher 3 time and have never gotten a returned call. If Shayne will hire teacher like this I worry about their standards. I am very disappointed!

My son is a 2nd grader at Shayne, and we love the school. His teacher, Mrs. Kain, is the most loving, caring, patient teacher I've ever met. The main thing lacking is the amount of time they get to spend outside and the lack of playground equipment. Hopefully this will get better as the school ages. They've made vast improvements in the library in the past year and I know the rest of the school will improve too. We are moving soon and the thing we will miss the most is this school. It's almost ideal.

M.W.Shayne is a great school. I couldn't be happier with the administration and faculty. I have never seen a better, more caring group of teachers who truly go out of their way to make learning fun for their students. Education is not just a school event but a community event at Shayne where all families are encouraged to be involved and active participants in the education of the students. More schools should be like Shayne Elementary!

Shayne is a great school! My child started 2nd grade at Shayne when they opened their doors in 2004. I now have 2 children attending the school and couldn't be more pleased. The teachers and staff are knowledgeable and caring and go to great lengths to ensure the children's needs are met. PTA and parent involvement occur on a daily basis. The gifted program and the art/music/PE programs are excellent.
