My son attended this school as the only African american student for four months. The school does not favor diversity! Some of the teachers there are great. The reading programs are outstanding. However I am sending my son to a private school because he is made to feel uncomfortable there. He began the year without any problems however, there are many issues that has come about currently and everyday I hear a new story from my son, other students as well as adults. I crindge at the thought of my fon completing the school year there!
We moved to Norris 3 years ago from a big city and where very concerned about what kind of learning atmosphere/expectations/and methods would be available for our children in East TN. I was completely prepared to send our kids to private school but based on recommendations went ahead and tried Norris Elementary. We are so pleased! The teachers care about the students. They are very open with the parents as far as progress and encourage parent involvement in their rooms. The children are pushed to achieve outside of their comfort zones to prepare them for higher grades, while at the same time being taught on a very personal level. The community spirit fostered by the principle and the parent participation at the school is amazing.
I love the school - the staff and teachers are very accomodating for every student's needs.
Great School. I went here as a child and now my two sons are in 1st and 4th grade. Small class sizes, individual attention, and high expectations have always been a Norris tradition. Both of my children have learning difficulties and they have had tutoring and extra resources each year available to them. Most parents are involved in the school and the community.
