Oneida High School

I am going to be a senior next year at OHS, and I have been there for the 1st 3 years. I can say that a very small percentage of the staff knows what they're doing. As someone previously stated, the biology teacher, the teacher for core math (algebra, geometry, etc.), and a few other misc. teachers actually try to teach you and prep you for college like schools in better areas would be able to (mostly because they aren't from around here). However, most of the teachers neglect teaching anything. They expect you to know or figure out everything on your own. You can easily pass any class, but for those ambitious enough to attempt straight A's, you're more or less teaching yourself everything, especially in advanced courses. Only one teacher is certified to teach advanced English, she can hardly remember what year it is, the only certified AP math teacher knows her stuff, but she barely teaches you any of it and then sets you loose to figure the rest out on your own while she talks about her family, as is the case with most math teachers here. All in all, you'll get a high school diploma, but don't expect to be the smartest man/woman entering any college. Staff review + change needed.

People care about you here. I am a junior at OHS, and I would never consider going anywhere else.

I graduated from OHS in 2006, I would not reccomend this school to anyone who is serious about continuing their education. Although some of the teachers are very good at what they do ecpecially the biology, and spanish teacher. They both inspired me to go and further my education. To those teachers I greatly respect. I graduated from OHS in 2005, and in the fall of that year I enrolled in a university. I felt under-prepared in some subjects: namely math and history. I also found most of the teachers at Oneida were uninspiring; they didn't seem to want to be there. Neither was the curriculum challenging enough. I took AP classes in high school and grew bored and indifferent to teachers who would either read their notes to the class word for word, without looking up. I also knew a teacher who would fall asleep in class. Inspiring? No. Did I feel motivated to learn? No.

I graduated from Oneida in 2002 and felt that the curriculm and atmosphere was wonderful. At the time that I graduated, Oneida was one of the best schools in Tennessee(following Oak Ridge and Maryville). After graduating I attended a state university and felt that I was more prepared than at least 90% of students that graduated from other high schools. Perhaps the only shortcoming in the Oneida curriculm was the math program. However, the best attribute at Oneida is the personal attention that each student recieves.

I went to Oneida schools my entire school life. Oneida High has some real problems. Teachers who are sub-par, a lackluster curriculum, and a principal who cares more about sports than education. Once I got to University, I was lost. My advice: stay away from this school.
