As a teacher at DMS, I take offense to the two one-star ratings here. The school has made many changes since these postings, and now does have many activities other than those that are sports related. For example, there is now a drama club, a chess club, a book club and a newspaper, plus individual teachers who are encouraging academics. Check out the website and look at some of the TeacherWeb pages or the links, or visit the school if you want a clearer, updated image of the school! The website address is www.dekalbschools.net/dms
This is one of the worse schools in the state. Their idea of achievement is being able to throw a basketball. There is no interest in child developement or academics. The teachers teach to the test and that is it! Other than standard sports activities, there is no chess club, debate teams, nothing where brain power is used, available for the children...and the high school is even worse. The kids are bored.
It was the worst school my son ever went to. IT was bad.
