This is my son first year at this school and he has a great teacher and enjoys going to school but when he broke his nose is when we had problems. The office staff (bookkeeper) and the principal we're very disrespectful to me about me wanting to speak with his teacher since his nose was broke and I had some concerns as a parent and a medical professional. They would not allow me to speak with her even though I got to the school early before school started. The principal kept asking me if I emailed the teacher or called. I could not just come in his school demanding to talk to the teacher. I explained to him that I didn't realize I had to make an appt about my child's health and I never came in his school demanding anything. He still never let me speak to her and I had to write a note anyways. I have never been to a school where the front office staff and principal are rude and disrespectful to a parent. If they are going to treat a parent like this then how are they treating our children.
My son, and nieces attend this school. it has to be the most organized, school! always fun family nights, and things for the kids to do. Not to mention, probably the best principal, a school could ask for!!
Both of my children attended this school and I have had nothing but good experiences here. Both of my children's teachers have always been caring, informative, and very helpful in working with me to get/keep my children on top of their academics. LOVE this school.
My daughter loves this school and, so far, everyone in it! I am very pleased with it as well. As far as the previous comment... I have eaten lunch with my child on several occasions and NEVER saw any of the students cleaning the lunch room. I had a small issue and contacted the office, I received a call the next day with a resolution to my issue. The school has made my child feel very welcome, as she was new to the area and school. We moved to this area for this school and I am very happy with our decision.
I would have given zero stars but the interface made me give at leaste one. My child was in the 5th grade. The integrity and behavior of "L" as a teacher, a professional in her field, and a human being was questionable. Several students said "L" frequently tells students to shut up . Talking to the principal is useless. He vehemently defends them. My child was moved to a different class. At first I was upset but later I was glad, because I m afraid of what I would have done to the teacher had she continued to talk crazy to my child. 75% of the work that comes home is "TCAP review". Is it general practice to study for a standardized test? If your child is unfortunate enough to end up a victim of this poor excuse for a teacher, parent, and role model, I encourage you to communicate with your child how the teacher is treating him/her and talking to them on a daily basis. Be weary and make sure you are involved in what is going on with your child at this school particularly. One more thing I noticed is that the cafeteria workers also make the kids sweep and wipe the table after lunch. Nice way to get the kids to do their jobs.
Absolutely love this school....Refuse to move out of this area until my daughter finishes elementary school.
I love this school. My children love this school! Great teachers and a lot of parent involvement.
Great school. I had both of my children special transfered to CGE. All the staff is amazing and super nice. They are really pesonable with the children and care about the general wellbeing of the kids their. My kids have been to several different schools because I believe that children should have a great experience at school since they learn, eat, develope, and spend most of their day in school. No other school comes close to CGE. They are the best public school I have ever seen.
I am thrilled to be involved at CGE! It is a welcoming school not only for the students but the parents as well. My children have been loved, cared for and taught not only the academics but have been taught to be better citizens and participants in life!
I am a teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary. I have taught at CGE since the school first opened and I refuse to work anywhere else! It is my home away from home. The students are amazing and remind me everyday why I became a teacher. My colleagues are the best! Not only are they my coworkers, but they are also my friends. I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful career in education and to be at CGE!
My preference was to homeschool but my husband insisted that we send our children to public school, and we had heard good things about Cedar Grove. We have not been disappointed! We're in our 3rd year at Cedar Grove and so far have felt very blessed to have caring, approachable, professional teachers who have, for the most part, been great communicators both with us and our children. They welcome parental involvement, and I love being welcomed into that world and getting a feel for what and how my children are being taught, and by whom. The faculty and staff have also been welcoming of me and my younger children as we come in to help out in various ways. We feel very blessed to be zoned for Cedar Grove Elem., and have decided that we will not be leaving this area until our children are out of Cedar Grove.
The school has the feel of a private school. All staff know both of my children by name! That is incredible for the school to have so many students!
Best little school any where. PTO--Voted best any where for 2006-2007. Parent involvement is excellent. Many extracurricular activities. Academic programs cannot be beat. Just an all around great school.
This is an awful school. I had my child moved. The teachers, administrators, and cafeteria staff are horrible!!! The teachers send no communication home, the principal and vice-principal don't communicate well with parents, and the cafeteria is a taker of kids money. Please consider another school if you are moving to Smyrna
We love Cedar Grove! We have had two of our children attend for the last five years and we only have good things to say about the teachers and staff at Cedar Grove. We will not move out of this district until our children are out of Cedar Grove.
I'm a Hurricane Katrina victum, and my daughter has attended 5 diffrent schools in the past year. Out of all 5 schools Cedar Grove has made the best impression on my daughter. Not only has her grades gone up but she's involved in extracurricular activites. She now loves to attend school and speeks highly of her 3rd grade teacher Mrs Phillips. As for me, I attend some of the schools functions and am stunned by the amount of parent involvement. To see so many parents come together and support thier children in thier school activites is overwhelming to me. I would like to thank Cedar Groves staff and parents for standing by our childeren for thier future.
My daughter has been at Cedar Grove for the past three years and we are very pleased. She's had teachers that understand the differences in the ways that children learn and a principal that is never too busy to talk with parents and encourage and hug each child who wants her attention. She loves to read and they have helped her to enjoy learning. We've had to help her with responsibility issues (remembering to fill out her agenda and bring home the right books) but in the long run, she's made some good habits she's learned from signing the record. This year, they've added extra enrichment for kids in music and technology..we are looking forward to those programs. We've learned that school is what you make it---we get involved and help the school to be even better. The PTO is outstanding and free to join.
The current Principal seems to put more emphasis on how the school looks, test scores and what activities they have than on genuinely caring about the children. In other words its all about perception not substance. I am actually looking forward to getting my child out of there and with the current rezoning, the school will be losing a lot of the parental support base they have enjoyed for so long. The long and short of it is, this school isn t what it once was and doesn t appear to be turning that around anytime soon. On the upside my child has had 3 absolutely incredible, caring, dedicated teachers. To bad those in charge don t live up to that standard.
I can say that many teachers, aides and other staff have been great. I really feel that they care for my children. I wish that they had smaller ratios per class. I hope that with new schools being built things will get better.
My son has been a student at Cedar Grove for 3 years. Overall, I think the school is great. However, when he moved to fifth grade, I feel that some of the excitement and joy were diminished. He learned quite a lot, but he didn't have nearly as much fun doing so as he had in the past. I suppose as the work becomes harder, it's more difficult to build in the fun times. They are great about rewards though (honor's ceremonies, character education programs, incentive field trips) and the fifth graders seemed to get a lot of recognition from the administration. They have a strong focus on reading so be prepared for nightly logs to sign. They have an open library which allowed students to exchange books frequently, do research etc. We really liked that. They welcome parents and the PTO is great--we were very involved.
