A school is the anchor of a community. For some reason, our nation moved away from developing schools that are community driven and opted for larger schools that bus children in from many different areas. Washburn is fortunate to have a school that serves the children that live in this small community. Because of this, parents, students, and teachers are all very familiar with each other from pre-K through 12th grade. The classes are small which allows for more individualized instruction. Small size does limit course offerings, but Washburn and Grainger Co. work with a local college to provide a dual enrollment option to high school students. Overall, this is a great little community school.

Washburn High School Is Great. Our Small Classes Give Us The Ability To Be Taught Individually. I Am Only a Sophomore But Already Know Everybody. That Feeling Of Being Friends With Everyone Is Great. It's A Small School Yes, But I Love The Atmosphere.

This school is in real need of help. The focus as someone else said is more on who you are and what you wear instead of education.

I give Washburn School a 5 star rate! My kids love the small quaint classes and the morals of the other kids is outstanding! I would highly recommend a smaller school to a larger than life school where kids are just a number and no one knows your name!

Washburn should not be shut down the kids love it there and the teachers are great. Yea we may not have as many oppertunities as knox county or union county but we are taught what is needed to go to collage and we dont have all the clubs to distract us from doing our work. Teh people at washburn are close and love each other. It is nice for a kid to be able to graduate knowing everyone in their class. i mean why take that away from us without us being able to voice our oppions. Its just not fair.We can succeed as far as anyone else in the world no matter what the size.

Washburn School is a great school. They may not have all the sports that the other high school in Grainger County has;but they are more concerned on the students education than on the sports that most schools are based on honestly.

Washburn is the best school in the country in my opinion. Everybody gets along and the teachers are great. The boys ball team is awsome too. Lets go Pirates!

Washburn is an overall great school, what it lacks in athletics and extracurricular activies, it makes up for in other areas. The High School is far from a joke- WHS performs very well given the resources it's given. Overall, Washburn is one of, if not, the top performer in the Grainger County School System. (Just Overlooked)

From a teacher and parent: Washburn school IS a great school, a great, small school. Every comment I've read on this page has a kernel of truth in it (except that the school is a joke). This school does well with what it has...most teachers ARE willing to go the extra mile. In fact, a lot of the teachers HAVE gone the extra mile just by taking a job here in a small, rural, low income area. If you want a lot of clubs or a variety of sports; no, you are not going to find them here. Our population just does not support these things. We have former students in colleges and universities all over the state and the country. Doctors, veterinarians, business owners...they have all graduated from Washburn School. Is Wasburn perfect? Of course not. My children could go to any school in the area; they go to Washburn.
