I have a Graduate this year and another in 3 years, they worked with my son who was struggling to graduate, they are great, they care about the kids, parents can go anytime they are always available !AWEsome school
this school is, cozy, it's not to big and it ain't to small. i have gone her since kindergarten and its just home to me. all of my dad's family has gone here since about the time the school first opened. it's very welcoming at times. and the classes arent that hard to find.
We love Watertown High School! We moved from Nashville with their crowded schools, and lack of dress code. Yes, WHS is a small school, but that is its biggest appeal to us. The kids are known as individuals not just another name. The teachers, staff, and principals do care. Frankly a lack of programs is not the school's fault, but Wilson County for not providing funding. WHS allows students to attend classes (they can't offer) part-time at Lebanon. I believe the dress code directly contributes to the low crime and lack of behavior problems. I feel a whole lot better with my kids attending a school where there are not weekly lock downs. The first day of school my son missed the bus home and a teacher gave him a ride. You wouldn't find that in a big city.
Most of the reviews posted here are old and no longer relevant. There is a new principal and a new attitude at WHS. It is unfair to judge the school by the dress code because the administration has no control over it; it is a district-wide policy. If parents would stop criticizing and start participating, things would improve.
I am a student in the 9th grade and in the new marching band. I say that the school is strict but if it wasn't it would be chaos otherwise. I think the teachers do what they have to do to get the kids to learn and obey. That is what I think.
I think that watertown does worry a little too much about the dress code and about discipline. They need to be worried about the children and helping them succeed in life.
Watertown High School is not attended to by the school board, as other schools in Wilson County. This is due to the fact that it is a small school. However, just becuase it is a small school, doesn't mean it has fewer needs. The lack of academic advancments, as well as extra curricular programs is a serious issue. The dress code, does infringe upon the students rights, and is pretty much a contradiction in itself. Some items are prohibited becuase they could possibly in a certain situation be used as a weapon. Yet some items such as the belt are enforced. Could a belt not also be considered a weapon? I believe Watertown has several unresolved issues that need to be attended to, but I know some students enjoy Watertown. Mostly I belive becuase the same students have grown up together since starting school in kindergarten.
The teachers and faculty care a lot about the students. They know what is going on in their lives and often give them personal attention with their school work. While there are always kids who don't get along, cliques are a minimal. Everyone knows each other. Negative aspects include the lack of sports, extracurricular activities, and honors courses. College bound students looking for an academic challenge will not find it at WHS. Also a disadvantage is the dress code which causes much grief and doesn't actually do much for the students or faculty.
Bad! This is the worst so called school I've ever known. Thier over controlling joke of a dress code actually violates kids rights. 1.5 hrs a day wasted sitting in the lunch room and have to shut up!, Dont help w/ homework, dont interact, dont smile. They are cruel and rude to the kids, though will show a different face to parents. They do not encourage learning there. Thier only concern is total control! Education is 2nd, or 8th. Even other sub teachers complain. A small handfull of teachers actually are able to see a students talents, and helps them to grow. You should be ashamed Watertown Schools.
Low expectations are the standard. My child is in 7th grade and can't wait to transfer to Wilson Central. Sports are given priority over academics. Sports are practiced during school hours for jr high. If you aren't in sports you sit in the cafeteria in dead silence for over an hour. No enrichment classes. Many students must go to WCHS or LHS to earn needed credits their JR & SR years. If all you want are the basics it will work, but if your child needs or wants to be challenged it won't happen here. Small towns can be great but this one is definately lacking. I believe there are some good teachers here but they have little parent support and no principal support. There is a drug problem that they are in denial about.
