There are currently no services available in the Humphreys County school system for children with dyslexia. I had to find outside resources myself for diagnosis and academic help. We travel an hour and a half every week for my child to receive help for his dyslexia. When he was first diagnosed, he was placed in a special ed classroom - an epic failure. He is in an inclussion classroom with a few modifications this year. I feel there are those who genuinely care and try to help those with certain learning needs, and there are others that "write them off as kids we just need to get through the system". I could write a book on the many struggles, trials, and frustrations that lead to very small victories in the school system. Our saving grace has been the independent center we travel to weekly for services.

It has its ups and downs I wish they had some way to monitor the classrooms to see how much time is spent teaching and how much time is spent on there phones. I also think they should have smaller classes so there is more one on one time with teacher and students. I also wish that they could keep better track of where the kids are so that they wouldn't have lost 4/5 day back to back do to the lack of communication. Not all teachers are bad there are more good teachers than bad, however you have to cross your fingers and hope you get a great one.
