we love this school! my husband went to school here and now our children go. yes it is an old school, but the size is perfect when it comes to classes. there is no threat of violence or gangs. it is a small school and the principal knows every child by there first and last names and in most cases knows their parents. they have a wonderful fall festival in oct. the kids all seem happy going there each day.

If you live in Macon County, Westside Elementary is the best kept secret in the school system. There is no favoritism, all children are treated th same. The principal and teachers are caring and happy to meet with parents at the parents convenience. The office staff is great!! The class size is small and the students receive more individual time with teachers and staff. The library is great. The school offers a 5th grade basketball program for the girls and boys, 4-H, after school programs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and offer a great computer lab. I think it has been a wonderful experience for both of my children to have attended Westside. My children have had Karen Eller, Sherry Massey, Jean Griggs, Niki Hogin, Andrea Mills, Erica Woodard, and Pam Pedigo - These teachers are all excellent caring individual who love to teach!

My kids have only been with Westside Elementary for a little over one year. I had doubts about sending them there a second year, but gave it another chance. The school is small with small classes-very nice, but also very old-school. Some of this is good and some things need changing. At this school they still say the 'Pledge of Allegiance', they celebrate most holidays without anyone discriminating. That part is the best! I wish there were more parent participation and the school had more activities such as a Father/Daughter dance or Art class where they do more than just color pictures and a music class where the kids could perform for the parents. Westside compared to the 'big city' schools, where we originally come from, has been really good. The principal and the teachers seem to try hard to make this school better each year. School lunches are also good.
