Ok, I have 2 daughters that went to this school. They are 9 years apart in age. When we moved into this school, my oldest daughter was in 2nd grade and coming from Arlington ISD. She could barely read on a Kindergarden level although we worked with her at home. Her teacher (unfortunatly does not work there anymore) help her every day after school until she was reading on level! From there 3rd-4th grade, her teachers were AMAZING!! When my youngest daughter started going there, she loved it so much she didn't want to go to 5th grade! She only had problems with her 2nd grade teacher. That so called "teacher" has no business teaching our children...other than that, the staff is wonderful. My daughter still has contact with her favorite 3rd grade teacher on a regular basis!! I never really had any issues with anything at this school except the so called 2nd grade teacher. I love the fact the children wear uniforms!!
Ok, I have experience with Glenn Harmon as my child attended there until I pulled him out. If you compare this school to the other Elementary School a half mile away...literally...you'll be blown away by how much better the other school is...Night and Day...its unbeleivably better than Glen Harmon. Makes me wonder why two schools with the same budget are so different. The teachers compared to the teachers at the other school do nothing for the students...minimal support from the teachers and almost no support from parents...but a half mile away...Oh man...you can't miss the differences even by just driving by...don't beleive me? take the challenge. Drive by Glenn Harmon, then Drive by Charlotte Anderson. The Principle at Charlotte Anderson has done a fabulous job for the community while I don't know what they are doing at Glenn Harmon...besides collecting a paycheck.
I went to this school from 1-4 grade, overall the school is great, i can't compalin. As the staff goes, i had some pretty good teachers. Not all the teachers are great, but you're going to have that at EVERY school. My little sister went there from preK to 2nd grade, and her teachers sucked. My mom had alot of meetings with the teachers up there.
Extremely disappointed that this school is even listed as an great school. This school enables teachers to bully and treat children unfairly. I have been up there several times to talk to principal, which excuses upon excuses were given as to why she could not talk to me. Each time I was given the assistant principal, which she just would state that she would have to talk to the principal about the issues. So I made an appointment, so that the excuses would not be given. I reported at my appointed time, when I stated I had an appointment to speak to the principal then again I heard nothing but excuses. I went ahead and spoke to the assistant again she stated that she would have to talk to the principal. I was only asking for my daughter to be switched to a different teacher, because the 'teacher' was threating her with ISS if she didn't finish an assignment. My daughter has a.d.d. so she needs to be given instructions so she can understand what it is that she is supposed to do. The 'teacher' calls her lazy, she just doesn't want to learn. When she can't finish the work, she takes her recess away from her. 'Teacher' ignores her hand up for help. 3rd grade teacher.
This is a really great school. The teachers really care about the students. They look out for all students whether they are in their class or not. They really take thetime to work with and teach the students.
Academically this is a great school. As far as the staff goes not all of the staff are good. Alot of them are very sweet and caring. The ones that dont care about the student can really damage the students self esteem!
i have 4 kids in the school .. it is really great school ... one family what ever your color or religion .. .. they have good smile ,good healp, nice teachers , the princibale great great and propal person . the health teacher there is so nice and the kids love her..and alot alot of good teachers and stuff. Iam glad that i move to a house next to this school ..Iam sure my kids will not find agreat school like this .thanks all
My son went to Glen Harmond for half a year and now he will be going to the 1st gread and tiis will be my daugthers first time she will be in pk4 I no she will like it because my son loves Harmond. And I think it is a very great school.
I love teaching at Glenn Harmon. Everyone on the campus, from the principal to the custodian, works together for the well-being of each and every student. The school rating, and family feeling of the school are things to be very proud of. It has been a wonderful place to work.
I have had children in Glenn Harmon for the past 5 years. The faculty, teachers and parents have been awesome to work with. They have taken the time to put together extracurricular opportunities for all kids to make their educational experience a positive one. A Dad's Club was started which has taken off and flourished over the last year. There are very dedicated parents who give of themselves and support the teachers. Our children were blessed with wonderful, caring teachers who took the time to make certain their needs were met. The only area in which an improvement could be made would be in making certain the crossing guards reamin outside until after the morning bell rings. Otherwise, I have no complaints or concerns. Thank you to all at Glenn Harmon. I don't think we could have had a more positive experinece anywhere else!
I am totally shocked at what some parents have said about Glenn Harmon. It is a great school. I was a former teacher there and I know that every teacher did their best to educate the students. The principal and vice principal work hard to provide a safe and secure environment for students and faculty. I love all my former students and continue to monitor their academic progress now! Parents need to take an interest in their child's education and be a part of the school---not to just 'talk' about the problems but work with teachers and faculty to solve them.
I feel that this is an excellent school even though there is little parent involvement; however, the parents try their best. The school has a wonderful physical education and music program of any school that I have seen. The teachers and the administration really care about the students as well. I am shocked by the former reviews of this school! This school has a 'recognized' rating and has worked hard to achieve it! There are many extracurricular activities. Many teachers have also won grants from the district to enhance learning. The thing that stand out the most about Glenn Harmon Elementary though, is the unbelievable amount of technology integrated into the classrooms. Keep up the great work!
I have not been pleased with the involvement with faculty and students. I have seen too many times the students were torn down for something that should not have been dealt that way. There are a few teachers that make it ok for my children. This is not a caring facility. The Vice-principal and Principal are so worried about appearances and making themselves look good they forget about the important things 'kids'. Thank you to the few teachers that really care. You make the school! Shame on those who don't care about the kids.
I have 3 kids that went to Glenn Harmon and we always were happy with the teachers and office staff. Excellent teachers, and educational experiances.
The negativity with which this school is run is astounding. Any parent spending any amount of time at this school should be in for a real eye opener. I have never experienced a school environment before in which the staff is allowed to treat the children as they do or talk to them in the manner in which they are talked to. Fortunately, Glenn Harmon does have some awesome teachers who walk a fine line between the negative leadership and trying to provide a positive environment. The leadership in this school would be well served by attending mandatory training in which the focus is on how to provide a positive learning environment. One of the first lessons they should learn would be on how not to destroy children's self esteem with words or actions.
The school seems genuinely interested in the well-being of the students. My child has learned so much in music and art and they seem to very active in Physical Education. I have noticed a great support in parent involvement. My child has to interact alot with the office personnel and the nurse and they have been absolutely fantastic to her and seem to be very caring.
Great school, teachers are a little impatient when it comes to hyper children that don't have ADD or ADHD.
I love this school. I volunteer a lot and have never been disappointed with anything I've seen. My daughter is always asking me 'can I go to school tomorrow?' when it's a holiday. LOL Keep up the good work teachers/faculty!
My prayers were answered to have a good school year for my children at Glen Harmon. I love the goal setting and character curriculum. We have been blessed with good teachers and the overall school year with faculty and school events was rewarding. Looking forward to the new school year.
