I'm speaking from a parent point of view. My daughter Ms. Courtney Mcfarland-Jackson teaches at this school I love her spirit she has for teaching. She takes pride in her work she cares so deeply about those young kids education. I wish that she could continue her career in education there at your school. We are keeping the school in our prayers. I wish everyone the Best with there transition. I pride mother Mrs. Laura Dennis
My son is in his second year at Metro Academy of Math and Science. As someone who works in the educational field, I understand the importance of a solid educational foundation. I believe my son has gotten that at MAMS. He began his studies there last year in the kindergarten class. I was very impressed with the individualized attention that he received both in kindergarten and now in first grade. Under the stable, capable leadership of Mrs. Janice Hobbs, the administration and the quality of education provided has improved. The school board is very receptive to her ideas and suggestions and has full confidence in her abilities. Over the last two years, I have worked closely with Mrs. Hobbs to improve parent involvement. I feel that given MAMS is a hidden treasure. Their teachers, staff and administrators work tirelessly to help advance the students that they serve.
This is my son's first year at Metro and it has been a rocky one, but it has also been his best one. He has excelled at things that I as an active parent never knew he had in him. I still would not have known if I had not made the change to put him in Metro. The teachers at Metro genuinely and honestly care for there students, I have personally witnessed a teacher taking the extra time to make sure each and every student is understanding what is being taught and not just making the blanket statement of see me after class. Being an active parent means that you see things that some people don't and from what I have seen I am impressed and over joyed. Keep up the good work
Metro is the best school in the world. I feel good evryday when my mother say's it's time to get ready for school. Some night I can't sleep think about my teacher and all my new friends. I have been at Metro for the last year 3rd and 4th grade. I hope Metro say's around till I get out of school.(Aliana N. Gowans)
I have worked at this school for the past 3 years. I am very proud of the progress and accomplishments of the primary campus (prek through second). We have worked very hard and our students currently leave our rooms one grade above.
I must disagree with the previous statement. The principal is a beginning her third year and served as an assistant principal prior to being promoted to principal. Most who are familiar with education are aware of the attention given the TAKS test. Right or wrong, it is the measure used to assess teacher effectiveness and success. Unfortunately, teacher performance is based heavily on this test. This is not a situation specific to Metro Academy of Math and Science. Parents who, as I do, disagree with so much emphasis on these tests should certainly bring this to the attention to their state and US senators and representatives.
My child attended both the primary campus and the secondary campus. I should have pulled my child out of that school by the 2cd grade. There is no stability in the administration, We have been through at least 4 principles during my child's attendance to this school. I will say that there are some great teachers and then there are some piss-poor teachers with horrible, horrible attitudes. These teachers only care about teaching TAKS, and care nothing about educating these kids about standard curriculum studies, honeslty I doubt if these teacher's even follow a curriculum. I could go on and on about this school, but why even bother, I pulled my daughter out of that school and she has execelled like never before in every class. I thought she would struggle because she often complained that the teachers never wanted to explain anything to the kids if they raised there hands
My son is a student at the primary school. the teachers, staff, and principal work very hard to provide a decent education to its students. Parent involvement is certainly lacking. However, there is a small core group of very active parents. The principal effectively manages both the primary and the secondary campuses and is responsive to parent concerns. My experience has been that the teachers have caring attitudes.
Well honestly I can agree & disagree with the last statement of this school. To begin with sure some of the teachers appear mean because the students aren't getting their ways. There are so many children coming into this school to whom are getting kicked out of the ISD'S.I have wittnesses the disrespect that these same students are displaying & wondering why the principle allows this.. The teachers are not allowed to chastise these children . And as far as books if the growth of this school wasn't surprisingly up they would have had extra from what I have seen. I don't understand the critisizm of the principle . She is there. & I personally know she does return calls @ least she has to myself & other parents to whom have had complaints or concerns on things. Before anyone slings mud about this school All as parents look in mirror
This school is terrible. The faculty, staff, and administration are very disrespectful and rude. They say they have a principle, but the principle is never there nor does the principle return your phone calls. My child complains about the teachers and the volunteers all the time. My child states that they are mean, and I have seen that first hand. It is bad when your child attend a school but does not have books for some of the studies. I am wondering why a child would not have a book. Where are the finances? How do you expect a child to learn or study if they do not have a book to use. This is the last year that my child will attend this school.
